Dewey Martin, the muscular, gregarious drummer and singer who helped found the pioneering country rock band Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young and Stephen Stills, has died. He was 68.
Martin was found dead Sunday by a roommate in his Van Nuys apartment, longtime friend Lisa Lenes said. She said Martin had health problems in recent years and she believed he died of natural causes.

Remember when you were a kid and your parents took you to the circus? Didn't you just love the funny clowns? Thanks to Stephen King, all that changed when he created his most evil character, Pennywise. Here's a clip from the 1990 film IT with Tim Curry at his best as Pennywise the Dancing Clown...still gives me chills when I watch it.

The music that went along with this scene really created the atmosphere that made this one of the scariest moments of the film. Once again I have to say that Stephen King is the master of horrow.

Look familiar? . . the Stanley Hotel in Colorado
reports several spirits, but the most notable are those of the original owner, F.O. Stanley and his wife, Flora. She used to entertain guests by playing the piano and staff report hearing music from that room or the piano keys moving even when the music stops as they enter. When horror writer Stephen King stayed in room 217 he was inspired to write The Shining. . . redrum!!!!

Written by the team of Marilyn and Alan Bergman, this song, performed by Stephen Bishop (whose birthday is 11/14), was the theme for the 1982 hit Tootsie. I absolutely love it! A truly romantic classic, from an era when lyrics meant something. Doesn't it make you want to fall in love all over again?

(personally I think Jane wasn't drinking grape juice)
This gem comes from a 1979 episode of "Dinah!" subtitled "Glamour Is..." with classic glamour gals Diahann Carroll, Jean Peters, Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds and Jane Russell as well as the designer Bill Travilla who Dinah refers to in this song from Stephen Sondheim's "Company". I've never seen this one as a duet but it may be the only video record of Miss Russell's performance. Someone please let me know if I'm wrong. Jane was the replacement for Elaine Stritch in the original Broadway production and judging by her contribution here, probably did a bang-up job.

Stella Walsh was one of the first female Olympic heroes--but she could never shake the accusations that she was really a man. The masculine-looking Walsh was born in Poland in 1911 and came to the United States before her first birthday. Naturally gifted at sports, she won track and field contests sponsored by a Cleveland newspaper that were supposed to lead to a place on the 1928 American Olympic team. However, the immigration laws of the era said Walsh could not become an American citizen until the age of 21. She toured her homeland in the early 1930s and became hugely popular. She competed for Poland at the 1932 summer Olympics in Los Angeles and won gold in the women's 100 metres. At the 1936 Olympics she finished second to Helen Stephens, who, ironically, had to undergo a medical examination to prove she was a female. In November 1980, television station WKYC was heavily criticized for airing a story that questioned Walsh's gender. A month later the 69-year-old Walsh was murdered in a botched armed robbery at a Cleveland mall. Through a court order, WKYC obtained the coroner's report to vindicate their earlier claims. It said Walsh had male sex organs, no female sex organs, and both XX and XY pairs of chromosomes.
