Only six episodes made and first broadcast in 1982 (1983 in the UK). A number of running gags, including the special guest star every week being killed off during the introduction. Forerunner to the Naked Gun series of films.

Turn-On is generally regarded as the worst television show ever to grace the airwaves of American TV. Created by Laugh-In producers George Schlatter and Ed Friendly, Turn-On lasted just one broadcast: Wednesday, February 5, 1969. At some ABC afiliates, as Tim Conway explains in this clip, it was yanked off the air before it was finished. Turn-On was similar to Laugh-In. It was 30 minutes of skits and backouts bridged together by weird electronic music. Most of the skits were overly suggestive by 1969 standards. (One featured a comely blonde about to be executed by a firing squad. The head of the squad said, 'This might sound unusual but WE have one final request!' Another skit featured a vending machine that dispensed birth control pills.) Good luck finding clips of this turkey. Apparently the master tape is locked away in a vault somewhere never to be aired again.

The Winter Olympics certainly have grown in prestige over the years. Compare today's preparations to what they were in the 1940s. Here is the story of the ragtag 1948 Olympic hockey gold medallists from Canada. Canada had originally planned not to send a team to the Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland, but the Herculean efforts of one man and his connections to the Royal Canadian Air Force got things done. In the end, the RCAF squad surprised their many critics. They went undefeated in the eight-game round-robin tourney and outscored their opponents 69-5. This mini feature was created 40 years later by CBC sports. It aired during the network's coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games.

Popular folklore says that if an athlete or team appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated, something negative often happens to the subject shortly thereafter. The alleged SI 'cover jinx' began with this November 18, 1957 issue. It proclaimed the University of Oklahoma's football team--a squad that was riding a fantastic 47-game winning streak--was unbeatable. Guess what happened in their next game? Notre Dame scored a late touchdown to upset Oklahoma 28-21.
