Carole Landis was born on New Year's Day in 1919 and was primarily know as a B movie actress. Her busiest year ever turned out to be 1942, with roles in six films such as MANILA CALLING, THE POWERS GIRLS, and A GENTLE MAN AT HEART . . On July 5, 1948, Carole committed suicide on an overdose of Seconal in her Brentwood Heights, California home. She was only 29 and had made 49 motion pictures, unfortunately, mostly forgettable ones.

This 1970 clip of Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau is probably unknown to Americans, but it's very famous in Canada. In October 1970, a radical French-Canadian separatist group, the FLQ, began a reign of terror in the province of Quebec. James Cross, a visiting British diplomat, was kidnapped. Shortly afterward, Pierre Laporte, a Quebec cabinet minister, was also kidnapped. (Laporte's dead body was found a few days later.) Prime minister Trudeau responded by invoking Canada's War Measures Act which gave the government extraordinary powers to preserve order. The civil libertarians didn't like it, but it was the most popular thing Trudeau ever did. Watch him as he fields questions from a left-leaning TV reporter.

Excalibur or Caliburn is the legendary sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain. Sometimes Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone (the proof of Arthur's lineage) are said to be the same weapon, but in most versions they are considered separate. The sword was associated with the Arthurian legend very early. In Welsh, the sword is called Caledfwlch.

In 1957 the group formed when Dion DiMucci joined The Belmonts - Carlo Mastrangelo, Freddie Milano, and Angelo D'Aleo - in late 1957. In 1958 they recorded 'I Wonder Why', which made it to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and Dion and The Belmonts appeared for the first time on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. This success won Dion and the Belmonts their first major tour in late 1958, with The Coasters, Buddy Holly and Bobby Darin. This was followed up by the 'Winter Dance Party' tour with Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. On February 2, 1959, after playing at Clear Lake, Ohio, Dion decided that he couldn't afford the $36 cost of a flight to the next show. The plane crashed, Buddy Holly and the other stars were killed. Even after that time the hits kept coming for the group. In 2004, Dion gave a live performance at the Tropicana in Atlantic City with Dion (lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitars) Butch Barbella (keyboards, backing vocals), Louie Colleti (backing vocals), Jamie "King" Cotton (sax, percussion, backing vocals), Al Korosy (lead guitar), and Charlie Powers (drums, vocals.) Though this performance wasn't with the Belmonts, Dion sounded just like we remember him after 47 years! He's keeping R&R and Doo-Wop alive!

I remember getting all excited as a boy, hoping that if I said Shazam I too would have these powers. Still trying. This was a staple of the Saturday morning Cinema kids club at my local Odeon. How the floor boards ever stood up to 200 screaming and stomping kids, I'll never know.

It was on May 27, 1939, that the character of Batman made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, and intimidation in his war on crime.

Here are the opening credits from another notoriously bad show: Manimal. It aired on NBC for three months in 1983. The premise of the show was that Professor Jonathan Chase, an animal behaviorist, possessed the power to transform himself into any animal at will. Of course Chase chose to use his powers to fight evil as a member of the NYPD.

The topless photo of Erin Murphy on the internet isn’t what you think. Erin began her career while still in diapers. Discovered by an agent, as her mother pushed her stroller in Los Angeles, Erin got her first job, playing a boy in a commercial for Folgers Coffee, at eleven months. Her next job was a detergent commercial with future President Ronald Reagan.
Right before her second birthday, ABC came calling, and Erin was cast as little witch Tabitha Stephens on the top ten sitcom, Bewitched. Millions of fans around the world tuned in to see if Tabitha had inherited magical powers from her mother Samantha. They delighted in Erin’s antics as she turned bullies into bulldogs and bullfrogs, played piano like a maestro and skated like Dorothy Hamill.
After eight seasons, 23 Emmy nominations, and 254 episodes, Bewitched gracefully ended without cancellation. Despite the fact that Bewitched was filmed in the 60’s and 70’s, the popularity of the show endures. Entertainment Weekly recently named Bewitched one of the “100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time” and for the 50th Anniversary of TV Guide.
Immediately following Bewitched, Erin turned down a part on The Waltons to go to Girl Scout camp, but she didn’t lose her love for the business. During her teens, Erin modeled and did numerous commercials. Today, she is 44 and has worked as a casting director, a makeup artist, a fashion stylist, an acting teacher, a motivational speaker. With her engaging personality, sense of humor and ability to appeal to audiences as diverse as Nickelodeon and Howard Stern, Erin is a popular celebrity host. She’s been featured on numerous programs, look for her on as the host of the Ab Shark infomercial for Thane & the Bun Shaper infomercial for Emson!
