Green Acres was another 1960s sitcom with a very recognizable theme. It was a reversal of The Beverly Hillbillies: Rich urbanites move to the simplicity of a rural setting. This show had an element of surrealism about it. Oliver Douglas was often the only sane person among a group of crazies. It is reputedly Conan O'Brien's favorite TV show.

In the late 1990s Oliver was diagnosed with cancer, and he died in Shreveport, Louisiana, on the same date that Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Charles M. Schulz, and Tom Landry all died....February 12, 2000.

From my all time favourite musical. The only reason I pick this tune from a show full of monster hits, is that it I played the part of Oliver when I was 10 and it's the only one that still gives me the tingles down the spine.

February 9, 1964 was a good night to be in the audience of The Ed Sullivan Show. Not only would you have witnessed The Beatles make their American TV debut, as an added attraction you would have seen the original Broadway cast of Oliver! perform two songs. (That's Davy Jones as the Artful Dodger in the I'd Do Anything number!)

...For what you are about to receive may the Lord make you truly Thankful. AMEN - Food, Glorious Food was written by Lionel Bart, is the opening song from the musical and movie Oliver! It is sung when the workhouse boys are dreaming and fantasizing about food while going to collect their gruel from the staff of the workhouse.
