City Lights - Final Scene One of the great movie endings ever! To truly appreciate this scene you should watch City Lights (1931) in its entirety. Nevertheless, here's a brief summary: Charlie Chaplin's tramp character has been mistaken for a rich man by a blind flower girl. Charlie gets into all sorts of misadventures in order to raise enough money for an operation that will restore the girl's sight. He ends up going to prison. This scene is set months later when Charlie is released from jail. Charlie is more bedraggled than usual. (Note he doesn't have his bamboo cane!) Charlie passes by an upscale flower shop and sees the girl who now has her vision. She takes pity on Charlie and gives him a coin. She then recognizes him by the mere touch of his hand and realizes the sacrifices he must have made for her. Pass the tissues!

High Noon Anachronism High Noon (1952) is a classic film, but it contains a minor anachronism (an historical mistake in which something from a later era is shown in an incorrect historical setting). Can you spot it in this short clip?

Shirley Temple - Laugh You Son of a Gun This is a clip from the 1934 Paramount film Little Miss Marker starring Shirley Temple. Shirley was newly under contract to 20th Century Fox in 1934, but she was loaned to Paramount for this film which turned out to be a big hit. It was a mistake 20CF would not make again. Despite Temple's winning presence, this is an adult film. The movie's plot revolves around bookie Sorrowful Jones (played by Adolphe Menjou) who accepts Marthy Jane (Temple) as security for a "marker"--gamblers' lingo for an IOU--to cover a $20 horse racing wager placed by her down-and-out father. When his horse loses, the father kills himself, so Jones and his gambling syndicate cronies are left in charge of Marthy. Here Shirley, who is not quite six years old, sings Laugh, You Son of a Gun. Dorothy Dell, the actress in this clip, died shortly after the film's release in an auto accident on June 8, 1934. Although Dell looked much older, she was only 19 years old.

1940s Radio Broadcast - Bob Hope and Judy Garland This was broadcast on the, 'Command Performance,' show, Armed Forces Radio Network February 20, 1945 featuring Bob Hope and Judy Garland. There is a skit a the beginning and Judy sings a short parody, 'Over The Barrel', of, 'Over The Rainbow' and then she and Hope finish with with a portion of, I'm Gonna Go For You'. Perhaps I should say try to finish. Also, being a live program, mistakes are made but the performers continue with an entertaining show. Froggy - Our Gang Billy (Froggy) Laughlin was added to the Our Gang cast in 1940 after an MGM executive heard him do a Popeye imitation at a movie theater. From 1940 through the end of the series in 1944 Laughlin played the cross-eyed, bespectacled Froggy, a character who spoke in a croaky voice. (Many Our Gang fans still mistakenly assume that was Laughlin's true voice!) Laughlin was tragically killed on August 31, 1948 in La Puente, CA. While delivering newspapers on a motor scooter with a friend, the pair made an unsafe U-turn and were struck by a truck whose driver had no time to react. Laughlin's friend suffered only minor injuries in the mishap. Laughlin was just 16 years old.
