Originally known as "You'll Never Get Rich" and then "The Phil Silvers Show," the granddaddy of all military sitcoms was broadcast from 1955 to 1959. Silvers starred as Master Sgt. Ernie Bilko, the con artist supreme who turns Fort Baxter into his personal base of operations for one get-rich-quick scheme after another. Harvey Lembeck, Joe E. Ross, and Maurice Gosfield as Pvt. Doberman were among the members of Bilko's platoon, and Paul Ford played the camp commander. . .

It looks like an image created by Hollywood, but it's a real sports photo: Bruised and bloodied Boston Bruins' goalie Sugar Jim Henry shakes hands with bruised and bloodied Montreal Canadiens' star Maurice (Rocket) Richard after the latter scored the winning goal in overtime to give his club a seven-game victory in the 1952 Stanley Cup semifinals. Richard had earlier left the game with a concussion but returned to dramatically score the game-winning tally. Hockey goalies didn't wear protective masks in 1952. Men were men back then.

Here's an eery episode of What's My Line from April 1965: Maurice Chevalier, closing in on his 77th birthday, appears as the mystery challenger. There's nothing eery about that. The freaky part is host John Daly's comment about how energetic he hopes he'll be when he's 77. John Daly died of a heart attack just four days after his 77th birthday in 1991.
