Alfred Eisenstaedt of LIFE took the photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse at the Times Square celebration on August 15, 1945, at the end of World War II. The photograph was one of many Eisenstaedt took that day, and he didn’t bother getting the names of anyone. Only after seeing the proofs did he realize that he had captured a decisive moment. On the 50th anniversary of the photograph, the couple was identified as Edith Shain and Carl Muscarello. . .

Remember Morganna? She was the well-endowed lady who made a name for herself in the 1970s and 1980s by intruding into sports events to kiss players. Few objected to the smooch.

Glenn Edward McDuffie-He's the sailor in Alfred Eisenstaedt's iconic Life magazine photo grabbing and kissing a nurse in the middle of Times Square after finding out World War II was over.
McDuffie died on March 9, but news of his death was reported Friday. He was positively identified as the sailor in the photo in 2007 after many men claimed it was them.
According to his obituary, McDuffie joined the Navy in 1942 when he was 15 years old. The obituary said he found a friend to forge his mother's signature, saying he was old enough to serve.
On August 14, 1945, McDuffie was part of Eisenstaedt's legendary photo.
