Originally known as "You'll Never Get Rich" and then "The Phil Silvers Show," the granddaddy of all military sitcoms was broadcast from 1955 to 1959. Silvers starred as Master Sgt. Ernie Bilko, the con artist supreme who turns Fort Baxter into his personal base of operations for one get-rich-quick scheme after another. Harvey Lembeck, Joe E. Ross, and Maurice Gosfield as Pvt. Doberman were among the members of Bilko's platoon, and Paul Ford played the camp commander. . .

In 1955, Bo Diddley became the first African American performer to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. Apparently Sullivan was infuriated when Diddley sang this, his self-titled song instead of what was planned, Tennessee Ernie Ford's hit, "Sixteen Tons".

Until this song was released in 1985, Heart wrote most of their own songs. That year they signed with Columbia Records and got help from some experienced songwriters. This was written by Bernie Taupin, who was also Elton John's lyricist, and Martin Page. The song was first offered to Stevie Nicks, who turned it down. Nancy Wilson had a nasty cold when she recorded her vocals. The producer liked the raspiness in her voice, so they kept it.

This duo were regular Saturday night viewing for years in the UK. Everybody has their favourite sketch. This is one of mine. Hollywood stars, music groups and singers all fell over themselves to be on their show. Andre Previn does well to keep a straight face.
