NY Met Sign Man Passes Today At 83 Before the heavy-metal intros for relief pitchers, before the JumboTron and even the electronic scoreboard, there was Karl Ehrhardt and his signs at Shea Stadium. Dubbed the "Sign Man of Shea," Ehrhardt captured the moods of Mets fans in the 1960s and '70s with thousands of handmade placards. For players who made errors, one read: "BUM." After a clutch Mets hit: "WUNNERFUL." And upon the last out of the 1969 World Series, which the Mets won: "THERE ARE NO WORDS." Ehrhardt died from natural causes in his Glen Oaks, Queens, home on Monday, his family said. He was 83.

Stay Awhile The Bells Hi all. Sorry I had to take a break from the site as my daughter was going through some turmoil and needed my attention. I hope all is well friends. I have to share an experience that was way beyond cool for me. I have recently been granted access to a local music studio that my nephewís rock band rents space in and I have been writing songs and practicing guitar up there for a couple of weeks now. Last Thursday night, I went to the studio, and was let in by my friend Tim. He was sitting with a friend, and I set off to the smoking room before I went to work. Tim and his friend come up, and we start talking. After about 10 minutes, I realize that Iíve seen Timís friend before, but couldnít place him. Then he made a comment about when he plays a certain song in concert, some people are really surprised to hear that he wrote it. The song is this one here, Stay Awhile, and the manís name is Ken Tobias. I couldnít believe it. This man had a string of Canadian hits in the mid 70s, and wrote this song that The Bells made famous. He is originally from here, but after a few years in Toronto and LA, he made the decision to come back home to live. He hung out with us all night, and was as cool as could be. A surreal moment came when sitting in Timís office, I looked across at Ken sitting on a couch and saw right above his head, a framed and signed album cover from him featuring his portrait from 1976. It was a night that I will remember for a long time. He is still very active in the local music scene here, and still performs occasionally. If we cross paths again, I must get a pic taken with him. I will post a Ken Tobias video later on, but I always loved this song. Very pretty melody. Thanks for letting me share a cool memory for me friends.

Great Act of Sportsmanship You'll want to watch this clip from ESPN. It's about six minutes long but, believe me, it's worth it! This is one of the finest examples of sportsmanship you will ever see. It involves two women's collegiate softball teams and an injured player named Sara Tucholsky.

Mona Lisa Stolen 1911 This is what remained of the Mona Lisa in The Louvre after it was stolen on August 21, 1911--four metal hooks on a wall. The famous painting was missing until December 1913 when an Italian, Vincenzo Peruggia, tried to sell it to a museum in his own country. Peruggia was portrayed as a patriotic Italian who wanted to return the Mona Lisa to his homeland. However, the real story of the painting's theft did not come out for years. Peruggia actually stole the Mona Lisa for an Argentine art forger who had already made six passable copies of it. When the theft became public news, the forger had no use for the real painting. Instead he sold the six copies to six different gullible art fans for extraordinary sums, each buyer believing he had bought the true Da Vinci masterpiece. During the 27 months the painting was missing, Peruggia had kept it in a trunk under his bed in his apartment not far from The Louvre. He was waiting for instructions from the art forger that never came. Eventually Peruggia tried to sell the original painting himself and was promptly arrested.

Scream Queen Hazel Court Dies at 82 Hazel Court, an English actress who co-starred with the likes of Boris Karloff and Vincent Price in popular horror movies of the 1950s and '60s, has died. She was 82. Court died early Tuesday of a heart attack at her home near Lake Tahoe, daughter Sally Walsh said Wednesday. While she had a substantial acting career both in England and on American TV, Court was perhaps best known for her work in such films as 1963's "The Raven." She co-starred with Price, Karloff and Peter Lorre in director Roger Corman's take on the classic Edgar Allan Poe poem. Corman directed her in five movies. Like other "scream queens" of the era, Court often relied on her cleavage and her ability to shriek in fear and die horrible deaths for her roles. "The Premature Burial,""The Masque of the Red Death,""The Curse of Frankenstein" and "Devil Girl from Mars" helped propel her to cult status and brought her fan mail even in her later years. 'She'd probably get over 100 pieces of fan mail a month and she would reply to every single one,' her daughter said. Court had finished an autobiography, "Hazel Court - Horror Queen," which will be published in Britain.
