Far Away From Home Since 1942, Armed Forces Radio and later, Television Service (AFRTS) has been providing information, education, and most importantly, entertainment to U.S. military forces everywhere. From broadcasts to the troops serving around the world in WWII, from Soul during the Korean War, Saigon throughout the Vietnam War, to stations in Europe and Iraq today. Since 1942, through today, wherever American men and women serve, a bit of the "hometown" travels with them. Thanks to Armed Forces Radio and later the Armed Forces Network the entertainment that they held so dear is never really far away. In a way that is perhaps never realized at the moment, when we heard the music that we really never are Far Away From Home Film Clips and Video Footage: Official and Amateur footage Vincent Romano Archives http://www.webalice.it/romanoarchives/ The Armed Forces Network http://www.afneurope.net/ jnaz33 http://www.youtube.com/jnaz33 ReptilianGems http://www.youtube.com/ReptilianGems galtcitycouncil http://www.youtube.com/galtcitycouncil Jamie "RustyJms" http://www.youtube.com/RustyJms John "WolfieRed1" http://www.youtube.com/WolfieRed1 Ecapsym http://www.myspace.com/yagsi_ecapsym Jay "MyEarbot" http://www.youtube.com/user/MyEarbot marcofrix http://www.youtube.com/marcofrix rusherecumbent http://www.youtube.com/rusherecumbent Audio Clips OTRCAT (pronounced 'oh-tee-R cat' - from Old Time Radio Catalog) http://www.otrcat.com music nowhere to run - Martha and the Vandellas going up the country - Canned Heat somebody to love - Jefferson Airplane sunshine of your love - Cream papa's Got a Brand New Bag - James Brown i can't get no satisfaction - The Rolling Stones reflections - Diana Ross & the Supremes war - Edwin Starr we've gotta get out of this place - the Animals changes - David Bowie fat bottom girls - Queen smoke on the water - Deep Purple featuring the voices of Don Wilson Harry von Zell avacadoazzurro and of course ... The Doors Of Education This is a pro education short about some Florida Universities. Who would have known that years later, this man would be known as The Lizard King. And this was before he needed a haircut too! ;-)

George O Leary Resume Scandal In December 2001, the University of Notre Dame hired George O'Leary to be its new head football coach. Five days later O'Leary was fired because of falsehoods on his resume. Portions of O'Leary's resume, which had been made public by the university, claimed that O'Leary had earned a master's degree in education from NYU-Stony Brook University and three football letters from the University of New Hampshire. None of it was true. O'Leary had obtained only two credits from NYU and never graduated. Moreover, NYU-Stony Brook University does not exist. Also, records proved he had never played football at New Hampshire. The inaccuracies came to light when a newspaper reporter from New Hampshire wanted to write a favorable local-angle story about Notre Dame's new coach--and discovered that no one on the New Hampshire football team remembered O'Leary. O'Leary had successfully coached Georgia Tech to a national championship in 1991 and no one had thought to question his resume then.

Brass Bands of the Civil War There are an amazing number of good musicians who use their talents to play music of the Civil War era. They use musical scores from the 1800's, dress as bandsmen of that era would dress, and use period instruments. They sound great ! It is an education to see them march in a parade.

Britains Teen Parenthood Uproar In February 2009 this picture of new father Alfie Patten of Eastbourne, England alarmed the western world. The 13-year-old Patten (who looked to be about eight) was alleged to be the proud papa of a baby girl named Maisie, making Patten Great Britain's youngest father. The mother was Alfie's 15-year-old girlfriend Chantelle Stedman. Despite Patten's naivete (he didn't know what the term 'financial support' meant) the young couple decided to raise their daughter. The story created a media sensation in Britain. It was later learned that Alfie's older sister had a baby at age 13. Newspaper editorials cited the story as proof of declining morals and responsibility in the country. It also called into question the effectiveness of the UK's school system's costly sex education programs. Three months later DNA tests proved that another teenager, 14-year-old Tyler Barker, was the biological father. According to Stedman, Barker and Patten were just two of eight possible fathers.
