The band began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental rock band and later moved to a softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads. They had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to the Beach Boys, Chicago, in terms of singles and albums, is one of the longest running and most successful U.S. pop/rock and roll groups. According to
Billboard, Chicago was the leading U.S. singles charting group during the 1970s. In 1973 the group's manager, produced and directed Electra Glide in Blue, a movie about an Arizona motorcycle policeman. The movie starred Robert Blake, and featured Cetera, Kath, Loughnane, and Parazaider in supporting roles. The group also appeared prominently on the movie's soundtrack. 1978 was a tragic and transitional year for Chicago. The year began with an acrimonious split with long-time manager James William Guercio. Then, in late January, guitarist/singer/songwriter Terry Kath died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound (reportedly incurred while cleaning his gun), delivering a devastating blow to the band. Another version describes Kath's drunken last words to the band: "Don't worry, guys. It isn't even loaded. See?".

Since many people will be out celebrating tonight, I wanted to be the first to wish everone a very Happy and Safe New Year! This is the version that most people just call: 'ABBA around the piano'. Actually, 'Happy New Year' is a song from their 1980 album, 'Super Trouper'. The song's working title was humourously called 'Daddy Don't Get Drunk On Christmas Day'.

Here's a group of obviously disgruntled women. Between 1830 and 1840, most temperance organizations began to argue that the only way to prevent drunkenness was to eliminate the consumption of alcohol. The Temperance Society became the Abstinence Society. The Independent Order of Good Templars, the Sons of Temperance, the Templars of Honor and Temperance, the Anti-Saloon League, the National Prohibition Party and other groups were formed and grew rapidly. With the passage of time, "The temperance societies became more and more extreme in the measures they championed.
"He who does not love wine, wife, and song will be a fool his whole life long" — a vigorous 1873 assertion of cultural values of German-American immigrantsWhile it began by advocating the temperate or moderate use of alcohol, the movement now insisted that no one should be permitted to drink any alcohol in any quantity. It did so with religious fervor and increasing convictions.

Bob Anderson, who played the young George Bailey in the Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life," has died. He was 75. Anderson died Friday of cancer at his home in Palm Springs, his wife, Victoria, said Saturday. he was best known for his role as the young Bailey in Frank Capra's 1946 "It's a Wonderful Life," the same character portrayed in adulthood by James Stewart. In one scene, the story called for him to spot a potentially fatal error made by a drunken druggist, played by H.B. Warner.
Warner took the role seriously and on the day of shooting had been drinking and was "pretty ripe," Victoria Anderson said. The scene called for Warner's character to slap the boy.
Anderson told the Los Angeles Times in 1996 that the scene and its rehearsals were painful.
"He actually bloodied my ear," Anderson told the paper. "My ear was beat up and my face was red, and I was in tears."
"At the end when it was all over, he (Warner) was very lovable. He grabbed me and hugged me, and he meant it," Anderson said.

"Well Billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he'd kick it in the head when he was 25.
Speed jive. Don't wanna stay alive when you're 25.
And Wendy's stealing clothes from Marks & Sparks
And Freddie's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face.
Funky little boat race.
The television man is crazy
Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks.
I need T.V. when I got T-Rex.
Oh brother, you guessed, I'm a dude now.
CHORUS:
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you)
Carry the news
Now Lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule; it's a real mean team.
But, we can love. Yes, we can love.
And my brother's back home with his Beatles and his Stones.
We never got off with that revolution stuff.
What a drag. Too many snags.
Well, I drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine.
Gonna race some cat to bed.
Oh man, is this concrete all around
Or is it all in my head.
Brother, I'm a dude now.
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (what dudes)
Carry the news (lets hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses)
Carry the news (I want you)
Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him)
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)
Carry the news (bring him here you go)
All the young dudes (Ive wanted to do this for years)
Carry the news (there you go)
Boogaloo dudes (how do you feel)
Carry the news " . . .

No one is surprised that photographers are always there to document Britney's every move, but I wonder how this 1942 photo of Frances Farmer came to be. Did cops tip off the press in advance?
Initially, Farmer was arrested by Santa Monica police for drunk driving. She got into a heated exchange with a cop before being dragged off to jail. By the time she was re-arrested for violation of parole, Farmer had dislocated a hairdresser's jaw, got into a late night bar brawl, and streaked topless through Sunset Strip. She signed "[email protected]#ks*&ker" as her occupation at the Hollywood police station.
there is nothing new in the world...

This is a clip from One A.M., a 1916 Charlie Chaplin film in which he appeared by himself. The movie's premise is simple: Chaplin plays a drunk whose inebriated state causes all sorts of difficulties when he tries to retire for the night.
