Dewey Martin, the muscular, gregarious drummer and singer who helped found the pioneering country rock band Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young and Stephen Stills, has died. He was 68.
Martin was found dead Sunday by a roommate in his Van Nuys apartment, longtime friend Lisa Lenes said. She said Martin had health problems in recent years and she believed he died of natural causes.

This is the final 10-1/2 minutes of Safety Last!--a silent 1923 Harold Lloyd film. Lloyd, despite his meek appearance, excelled at physical comedy. In this movie Lloyd has to take the place of a friend who was supposed to do a human fly act and climb the outside of the office building where Lloyd works. This is real, folks! There was no trick photography. Lloyd used a stunt double for the long shots in this clip, but all the harrowing closeups were of Lloyd. Lloyd had only a thin mattress on the sidewalk if he happened to fall. Safety last, indeed!

I'm the wheelie king,And the claim that this is the only way to do a real wheelie is false! You must lean back much further to achieve the center of gravity,to the point of flipping backwards for the balance required to keep riding on.That's why the kid is standing on the seat leaning back in order to keep it up.I have tried these and they don't work for any long period.Wheras I could ride for miles!Wheelie 101 And also that's the little old lady from Pasadena that's on the Jan and Dean album cover.I'm told

Edward Lodewijk "Eddie" Van Halen (born January 26, 1955), is a Dutch-American guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter and producer, most famous as the lead guitarist and co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen.
Many of us were saddened when Valerie Bertinelli married Eddie Van Halen on April 11, 1981.On July 9, 2002, they announced that they had been separated since October 2001. She filed for divorce on December 5, 2005 which was finalized on December 20, 2007.
During the late 1990s Eddie Van Halen was treated twice for tongue and mouth cancer. During an interview with Howard Stern on September 8, 2006, Eddie claimed that holding a metal pick in his mouth 12-14 hours per day while immersed in the electromagnetic radiation of his music studio caused his tongue cancer. He said he continues to smoke because "cigarettes didn't cause the cancer", despite the fact that they could in fact contribute to the cancer's potential for resurgence.

Personally, I like their original 1972 version better, but they still sound great today. Their first album, titled 'America' was released in Europe with only moderate success and without this song. But the producer, Ian Samwell was looking for a song that would be popular in both the US and Europe. He helped the group to record this song and then persuaded Warner Brothers to re-release the album with the song included. The original song title was 'Desert Song', but was renamed at Samwell's suggestion. It was written on a rainy day in England and was intended to capture the feel of the hot, dry desert Dewey Bunnell remembered from his childhood at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Bunnell's voice sounded so much like Neil Young's, that after Neil's father heard it, he called his son and asked him when he had recorded it! One thing that I think is funny is the line that included '...the heat was hot.' I mean, what else can heat be? Anyhow...I still love this song!

Great vintage sports footage! British Pathe newsreels tended to go far afield to bring viewers interesting activities from around the world. They were present at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 1936 to film an NHL game between the Montreal Canadiens (not Canadians!) versus the New York Rangers. A few things to notice; the absence of the center red line; the players standing sideways to one another on faceoffs; and the way goalies used to hold their sticks before they wore trappers on their catching hands.

The infamous headline in the Chicago Daily Tribune that prematurely declared Thomas Dewey the winner of the 1948 U.S. presidential election based on early projections. Harry Truman got a kick out of it.
