PAUL ANKA Put Your Head On My Shoulder 1959 My first crush at 13, it was with the boy next door, he was 16, and I thought he was just the neatest! Now I can't even remember his name, but I still love this song.

Miss Jane Powell here at age 17 (her studio says 16), had her first pin-up photo shot taken. This was taken right after she was in HOLIDAY IN MEXICO in 1946. (PLOT "Ambassador Jeffrey Evans (Walter Pidgeon), a widower living in Mexico, has his hands full with his teenage daughter Christine (Jane Powell). Christine runs the entire household and tries to manage her father's private life as well. But love threatens to wreck all her carefully made plans: an earnest young classmate (Roddy McDowall) is hopelessly in love with her. . .Ambassador Evans is smitten with a beautiful singer (Ilona Massey). . .and poor Christine isn't sure where she fits in anymore! Top top it all off, Christine develops a crush on famed pianist Jose Iturbi, who is much older than she." TRIVIA: One of several films in which a young Fidel Castro appears as an extra, mostly in crowd scenes.

My Favorite Car was My First Car In 1965 when I graduated high school my dad FINALLY let me get my driver's license so I could get a car and a job. Of course he went with me because he was going to make the down payment, so I had to really talk him into the car I wanted, as it was a 1963 fire engine red Dodge Dart GT ragtop. It was gorgeous, at least to me. My dad wasn't really crazy about it, because he said it had probably been owned by some teenager who drag raced it all the time, but hey, that was my dad. He did agree after a little whining, and I drove it out of the lot straight to my best friend's house! I was so excited, my first car, and it looked like something I had only dreamed of owning. He had wanted me to get a Metropolitan, because he said they were safer. Ugh. I had such good times in this car, going down the road with the radio blasting out the Beatles, at 100 mph. I drove it to my first job, I still remember heading home on the Interstate late at night, in the dead of a Florida winter (50 degrees), with the top down and the heat on full blast. A few months later I met Larry, he kept my car one day while I was at work and had the nerve to take off the white twin racing stripes I had put on the hood and the trunk. I was crushed! And my dad made it worse by thanking him for doing it!! So my car made it through our first born in 1966 and then I had to part with her when she began having oil problems. But I will always miss my little Dodge Dart.

1924 Olympic Hockey Tournament The inaugural Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix, France in 1924 featured a hockey tournament that was far from competitive. The two North American teams handily crushed all European opposition. The eight-team event had Canada in one four-team pool and the United States in the other. The Canadians, comprised of amateur players solely from Toronto, won their first three games by ridiculous scores of 30-0, 33-0, and 22-0 versus Czecholslovakia, Switzerland, and Sweden respectively. The Americans were having an equally easy time vanquishing Belgium, France and Great Britain by a combined score of 65-0. In the semifinals Canada thumped Great Britain 19-2 while the United States whipped Sweden 20-0. Canada beat the US 6-1 in the gold-medal match. None of the champion Canadians ever played pro hockey. Canada's performance was so daunting that at the 1928 Winter Olympics, the Canadians were awarded an automatic bye to the finals while the other 10 teams battled each other to see which nation would get the honor of being pummelled. Switzerland emerged from the pack as the challenger--and promptly lost 11-0 to a team wholly comprised of students from the University of Toronto.

Donny Osmond on Heres Lucy From 1972, teenage heartthrob Donny Osmond performs 'Too Young' on Here's Lucy. He's singing it to...Eve Plumb of The Brady Bunch? In this episode Eve plays Lucy's niece, Patricia, who has a big crush on Donny. Of course Donny is smitten by Lucy's daughter, Kim (Lucy Arnaz). Geez, how did I miss this one when it first aired?

Listowel Arena Disaster 50th Anniversary Fifty years ago today, on Saturday morning, February 28, 1959, in a small Canadian town not far from where I live, a terrible tragedy occurred: The roof of the Listowel (Ontario) Arena collapsed due to a heavy accumulation of snow and inadequate construction. Seven peewee hockey players (aged 10, 11 and 12) and Listowel's recreation director were crushed to death by the debris while they were on the ice surface. A group of other young players preparing for their upcoming game in the arena's dressing rooms were completely unscathed. The arena was only four years old.

Elvis For Sweets. Had concert tickets to see Elvis in 1977. He was performing at our War Memorial in Sracuse, N.Y. He passed away before his tour got here. I was crushed. Still have the concert tickets. Believe it or not back then they were $25.00 each.
