Le Manège enchanté (known in English as The Magic Roundabout) was a children's television programme created in France in 1963 by Serge Danot. Some five hundred five-minute-long episodes were made and were originally broadcast between 1964 and 1971 on ORTF.
However, it was in the United Kingdom that the series became best known. The English version was narrated by Eric Thompson, the father of Emma Thompson, and broadcast from 18 October 1965 to January 1977. This version of the show attained cult status, and was watched as much by adults for its dry humour as by the children for whom it was intended.

The Flashing Blade (Le Chevalier Tempête) is a French television serial made in the late 1960s, which was broadcast in the UK on BBC children's television during the 1960s, with several re-runs in the early 1970s.
Dubbed from French into English, the action was set in 17th century France, during a period of war between France and Spain.
The dubbing was not exactly brilliant, so in the 1980s John Culshaw redubbed a comedy version (which is the one I remember best).
In the '60s and '70s the BBC had a habit of buying childrens programmes from European countries which were then very badly dubbed into English - often to hilarious effect.

British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

On September 24, 1960, during the final showing of Howdy Doody, Clarabell, the clown who never uttered a word in all the years we had watched him, finally spoke to us, "Goodbye Kids".
Children everywhere were elated and heartbroken at the same time. We miss Clarabell, but we especially miss the man behind the face of the clown, the man with the biggest heart of all, Bob Keeshan.

Lois Maxwell, who became so well-known for her performances as Ms Moneypenny in the James Bond films, has died. The Canadian-born actress starred alongside Sean Connery in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No," in 1962 as the secretary to M, the head of the secret service.- but there's much more to her acting career than that. She started out against her parents will - and without their knowledge in a Canadian childrens radio program - credited as 'Robin Wells'. Before the age of 15 she left for England with The Canadian Army's Entertainment Corps and managed (after her age had been discovered) to get herself enrolled in The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where she met and became friends with Roger Moore. Her movie career started with a Warner production A Matter of Life and Death (1946). After having won The Most Promising Newcomer Golden Globe Award in 1947 she went on to participate in 6 Hollywood productions before she decided to try her luck in Italy. She had to leave for England because of her husband's illness, and since then she has had roles in a number of movies besides the first 14 Bond movies. In 1989 she retired.
She died Saturday night at Fremantle Hospital near her home in Perth, Australia. Bond star, Roger Moore said she was suffering from cancer. She was 80.

Many of us are guilty of using run-on sentences in our comments, making it all but impossible for anyone else to figure out what we're really saying. Please make it easier for those of us who are truly interested in what you're trying to say.

There will be a new children's movie The Golden Compass premiering December 7th, starring Nicole Kidman, and is being highly promoted.
Many well intended parents/grandparents will think this is a great movie to take the kids to see, even my wife and son wanted to see it.
The movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman 's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview, "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants "to kill God in the minds of children".
I always verify my info with Snopes.com first; here are a bunch of links to verify and to read more info:

They have a right to produce this movie and I'm not saying not to go see it, just be aware that this isn't as innocent as they are advertising! Heck, MTV is giving a warning!
