Scenes of the 60s Bonanza with Johnny Cash singing the theme to Bonanza. If you ever wondered what the words to the song were here it is. A wonderful job by Ellen Tracy.

Here is the opening theme from a first-season episode of Bonanza. I'm sure you'll recognize the tune.

This 1967 ad featured the cast of Bonanza to promote Chevrolet autos. Hmm, I don't remember too many automobiles on the Ponderosa.

This was Sunday night TV at our house. We would all be sitting in front of the TV waiting for Bonanza to come on.

Pernell Roberts, the ruggedly handsome actor who shocked Hollywood by leaving TV's "Bonanza" at the height of its popularity, then found fame again years later on "Trapper John, M.D.," has died. He was 81.
Roberts, the last surviving member of the classic Western's cast, died of cancer Sunday at his Malibu home, his wife Eleanor Criswell told the Los Angeles Times.

This one may be a bit easier to identify. Essentially known for his acting career in television with three hit shows to his credit.

This odd photograph was published in the May 22, 1944 issue of Life magazine. It shows the girlfriend of an American soldier writing her beau a thank-you note for sending her part of the skull from a dead Japanese soldier. The photo inspired overwhelmingly negative reposnses from Life readers. Furthermore, it was a propaganda bonanza for the Japanese who used it to portray Allied servicemen as barbaric. Indeed, the mistreatment of enemy corpses was outlawed by the Geneva Convention in 1929. The soldier who mailed the partial skull stateside was reprimanded.

Myers Lake, as it was affectionately called in the The Andy Griffith Show it is the opening scene for the show. Located in Beverly Hills CA not North Carolina. This location has been heavily used by the television and movie industry over the past fifty years. It was the lagoon in Creature from the Black Lagoon and it was the pond in On Golden Pond. Some other shows you have seen it in are Bonanza, Star Trek, How the West Was Won, Lassie, Falcon Crest, Camp Runamuck, and Rambo to name a few!
