John McEnroe was only defaulted twice in his pro tennis career. Once was when he and doubles partner Peter Fleming were stuck in traffic and arrived late for their match at the US Open. The other time was at the 1990 Australian Open, as this clip shows. Prior to 1990, a player was defaulted only after a fourth code violation. McEnroe had forgotten the new rule and was disqualified after the third code violation.

Air Supply is the duo of soft rock musicians, English guitarist and vocalist Graham Russell, and Australian lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock, who had a succession of hits worldwide through the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1981 Air Supply released The One That You Love and it went number #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart. They are the most commercially successful Australian group to the present time. They've still got such a great sound, I could listen to them sing all night!

Heath Ledger was found dead today, Jan 22, 2008, at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.
The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in "Brokeback Mountain" and has numerous other screen credits. Very, very sad.

This is an interesting documentary clip about the Red Baron's last flight. On April 21, 1918, Germany's Manfred von Richthofen (known more familiarly to the world as The Red Baron) was shot down in France while pursuing Canadian aviator Wop May. For years there was considerable debate about who actually fired the fatal shot that killed Richthofen. A Canadian pilot named Roy Brown was given credit for the kill by the Royal Flying Corps. The Australians gave credit to one of their machine gunners on the ground. Modern forensic investigations tend to favor the Australian claim.

Berlei has been a highly regarded Australian corsetry manufacturer since 1907. This full page ad in "WOMAN", 2 November 1942 depicts an industrial strength corsellette, with some rousing rhetoric such as: "For whether she rears a family or mans a rangefinder, a woman needs the physical support of a good foundation." and "Amongst other munitions of war, Berlei are still making foundations"...
