On September 17, 2007, U.S. Senator John Kerry addressed a Constitution Day forum at the University of Florida in Gainesville, which was organized by the ACCENT Speakers Bureau, an agency of the university's student government. Initially allowed to ask questions after the close of the question period, Andrew Meyer, a 21-year-old fourth-year undergraduate mass communication student, entered into a planned line of questioning and was forcibly pulled away from the microphone. He immediately resisted the campus security and was subsequently arrested by university police. During arrest, the officers asked him repeatedly to stop resisting, but Meyer continued to struggle and scream for help. While six officers held Meyer down[1] one of the officers drive stunned him with a Taser following Meyer's shouted plea to the police, "Don't tase me, bro!" The video became a popular viral hit.

when i posted the photo of a glamorous and radiant Frances Farmer, i became interested in her life and career. As Sophia stated, reports of her 'institutional life' are conflicting (i.e. whether or not she had indeed had a lobotomy). What was evident, however, was that she was repeatedly subjected to insulin shock therapy and “hydrotherapy.” Now illegal, this barbaric practice consisted of her being stripped naked and thrown into a tub of icy water for six to eight hours at a time. . .i didn't intend to blog on this, but was so horrified at the treatment of the mentally ill.. that i couldn't stand it!

In 1927, Clara Bow reached the heights of her popularity with the film "IT" . . . i went back and looked up her bio in Wikipedia . . the least distressing entry regarding her family had to deal with her mother, Sarah Gordon, who told Bow that acting was for prostitutes. She had also taken to sneaking up behind Bow and threatening to kill her because she felt her daughter would be better off dead. One night, she awoke to find her mother holding a butcher knife to her throat. Clara ran and locked herself in a closet until her grandmother came home. Bow suffered insomnia for the rest of her life... go figure...

Little Richard was the originator and the architect of rock and roll. He exploded into the American consciousness in the mid-50's, and singlehandedly laid the foundation that established the rules for a new musical form. Tutti Frutti was his catalyst for success and led to an uninterrupted run of smash hits—"Tutti Frutti," "Long Tall Sally," "Rip It Up," "Lucille," "Jenny Jenny," "Keep A Knockin’", "Good Golly Miss Molly," "Ooh! My Soul"…By 1968, Little Richard had sold over 32 million records internationally. Driven by an incredible, hard-to-match energy which lends credence to his "wild man of rock ’n’ roll" image, Little Richard continues to tour extensively, delighting audiences with his unique blend of music and humor.

This is one of the funniest sketches I've ever seen. It's about as close to the mother-child relationship as you can get. Mike Nichols and Elaine May created perfectly improvised scenes that were outrageously funny, yet simply understated. Their dry wit and wry satire allowed them to lampoon faceless bureaucracy and such previously sacrosanct institutions as hospitals, politics, funeral homes, and even motherhood. Like other great comedy duos, Nichols and May perfectly complemented each other. They seemed so attuned and at ease with each other that the mis-communication they often based their skits on were all the funnier. Within a short while of arriving in New York, they were the talk of the town, appearing on The Steve Allen Show, introducing a nationwide audience to a humor unlike any on television. Nichols and May spent much of the next three years traveling the country performing together on stage, radio, and television. In 1960, "An Evening with Mike Nichols and Elaine May" had opened on Broadway to rave reviews, but by 1961, Nichols and May would announce the end of their partnership. Interested in pursuing individual careers, the two left behind one of the most popular and imitated comedy acts of its time. Mike Nichols has directed and produced a variety of hit films, such as The Graduate, Silkwood, The Birdcage, Primary Colors, and The Remains of the Day. Elaine May is a two-time Academy Award nominated director, screenwriter, and actress.

You can't make this stuff up! From 1898 to 1910 you could legally buy heroin over the counter from your local druggist. It was marketed as a non-addictive morphine substitute and a cough medicine for children!

It looks like Deputy Fife could have benefitted from the Schoolhouse Rock episode about the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. Watch him recite it from memory as only Barney Fife can.
