GI joe figurines Three GI Joe figures from the 1980s and the cover of the first (1982) G.I. Joe catalog. The figures are 3.75" tall. (The 12" figures came later.) The first 3.75" G.I. Joe action figures (Series One) were available in 1982 and consisted of seventeen characters. A new series was introduced every year thereafter. (It should be noted that the very first G.I. Joe figures came out in the 1960s.) The G.I. Joe animated TV series was launched in 1983. This was successful enough to warrant a second mini-series in 1985. Later that year, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero became a regular weekday program that ran through 1987. In 1987 an animated movie was made. A second series was launched in 1989 and ran through 1992. I collected all of them

Catweazle The series started in 1970 and featured Geoffrey Bayldon as Catweazle, an eccentric, incompetent, dishevelled and smelly (but lovable) old 11th Century wizard who accidentally travels through time to the year 1970.

The Virginian The Virginian aired on NBC from 1962 to 1971 for a total of 249 episodes. It was unique in that it was the first Western to air in 90-minute installments each week (75 minutes excluding commercial breaks). With Randy Boone, James Drury, Roberta Shore, Doug McClure, Clu Gulager, Lee J. Cobb.

Ideal Toys Astro Base 1960 Part 1 One of the coolest toys ever produced by Ideal! Every Junior Spaceman had to have one! This vid demonstrates the working functions of the main Astro Base Unit. This was totally taken apart by me and refurbished from junk Astro Bases that I've picked up. Look for Part Two which shows the Scout Car in action.

W.W. II Lockheed P-38 Ad Here’s one of many examples of our country's ‘hometown’ moral support ads during WWII. This one features a Lockheed P-38 Lightning. This ad appeared in Life Magazine and Popular Mechanics in 1942. Go get’em Maj. Richard Bong! (Richard Ira Bong was America's all-time Ace of Aces, downing 40 enemy planes in the Pacific theater of the war while flying P-38 fighter planes. Bong was killed August 6, 1945, the day the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, when the P-80 Shooting Star he was testing for Lockheed stalled and crashed on take-off.)

You Can Be Taller Well, call me cynical, but I think the only way these tablets will make you taller is if you stand on the box.

1957 Frances Farmer Update when i posted the photo of a glamorous and radiant Frances Farmer, i became interested in her life and career. As Sophia stated, reports of her 'institutional life' are conflicting (i.e. whether or not she had indeed had a lobotomy). What was evident, however, was that she was repeatedly subjected to insulin shock therapy and “hydrotherapy.” Now illegal, this barbaric practice consisted of her being stripped naked and thrown into a tub of icy water for six to eight hours at a time. . .i didn't intend to blog on this, but was so horrified at the treatment of the mentally ill.. that i couldn't stand it!
