Originally known as "You'll Never Get Rich" and then "The Phil Silvers Show," the granddaddy of all military sitcoms was broadcast from 1955 to 1959. Silvers starred as Master Sgt. Ernie Bilko, the con artist supreme who turns Fort Baxter into his personal base of operations for one get-rich-quick scheme after another. Harvey Lembeck, Joe E. Ross, and Maurice Gosfield as Pvt. Doberman were among the members of Bilko's platoon, and Paul Ford played the camp commander. . .

Smokey Robinson and The Miracles 'Shop Around', The Supremes 'Where Did Our Love Go'. Followed by the finale, 'Mickey's Monkey', with Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, and everyone else joining in: The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield. With the Earl Van Dyke Sextet. From the Ready Steady Go (RSG), Sound Of Motown TV special, recorded at the Rediffusion TV studios in London on 18 March 1965. This special was mainly Dusty Springfield's idea, to promote the Motown music and artists in Britain. Dusty was an occasional presenter of the weekly Ready Steady Go (which had the tag line... The Weekend Starts Here). She was a big fan of Motown music, and suggested the idea for this special to Vicki Wickham, recording artists manager, and RSG's producer at Rediffusion.

One of my favorites! He's got so much personality! Snagglepuss originally appeared in 1959 as a minor character on episodes of 'Quick Draw McGraw', 'Augie Doggie', and 'Snooper & Blabber'. The character proved to have such appeal that he was given his own segment on The Yogi Bear Show when it premiered in 1961. Snagglepuss's favorite sayings were 'Exit stage left' and 'Heavens to Murgatroid.' In the '70s and '80s Snagglepuss appeared with other Hanna-Barbera stars on shows like Yogi's Gang (1973), Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics (1977-1979), and Yogi's Treasure Hunt (1985-1988). Snagglepuss's memorable voice was provided by supreme voice artist, Daws Butler, who was Hanna-Barbera's most prolific actor, providing the voices of Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Dixie, Mr. Jinks, Quick Draw, Baba Looey, Snuffles the dog, Augie Doggie, Peter Potamus, Wally Gator, Hokey Wolf, Snooper, and Blabber, as well as providing the voice of Cap'N Crunch for Jay Ward.

Since 1942, Armed Forces Radio and later, Television Service (AFRTS) has been providing information, education, and most importantly, entertainment to U.S. military forces everywhere.
From broadcasts to the troops serving around the world in WWII, from Soul during the Korean War, Saigon throughout the Vietnam War, to stations in Europe and Iraq today.
Since 1942, through today, wherever American men and women serve, a bit of the "hometown" travels with them. Thanks to Armed Forces Radio and later the Armed Forces Network the entertainment that they held so dear is never really far away. In a way that is perhaps never realized at the moment, when we heard the music that we really never are Far Away From Home

Regulars on this website know that I love this old show. (My 300-plus WML posts attest to this!) The original CBS version of What's My Line aired Sunday nights at 10:30 from February 2, 1950 to September 3, 1967. I was just three years old when it went off the air so I never saw WML during its glory days (although I frequently watched the syndicated 1968-75 version). To make up for what I missed, I've been reading everything I can about this great slice of Americana. In the comment section below, I'll be listing some esoteric facts--trivia, if you like--about this supremely classy game show. By the way, this is a publicity photo of the WML gang from 1955.

Benjamin Nathan Cardozo May 24, 1870–July 9, 1938 Cardozo family tradition held that their ancestors were Marranos from Portugal. "Cardoso", "Seixas" and "Mendes" are common Portuguese surnames.
Certain Hispanic organizations do not consider those of Portuguese descent to be Hispanic. Both the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials and the Hispanic National Bar Association believe that Sonia Sotomayor, if confirmed, will be the first Hispanic justice.
