This is the '50s re-issue print of the Oscar-winning 1937 Silly Symphony, 'The Old Mill'. The original opening title featured a 'Distributed by RKO Radio Pictures, Inc.' credit. No matter though, the power and depth of the 'Multiplane' camera, demonstrated here, is still impressive, 70 years later.

The most hideous sports uniforms of all time may have been donned by the American Football League's Denver Broncos in 1960 and 1961. The ugly mustard-colored jerseys were awful, but the true eyesores were the stirrup socks with vertical stripes. They were the idea of Dean Griffing, the Broncos' general manager, who insisted the unique socks made the players look taller. Perhaps, but they also unquestionably looked silly. The media derided them as 'clown socks.' So reviled was the hosiery that when the Broncos' uniforms got a complete makeover in 1962, more than 8,300 people attended a ceremony in which the socks were tossed into a large bonfire. A few pairs escaped the flames, though. One set is on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Some players retained their socks as keepsakes. An authentic pair is apparently worth $500 on the sports collectibles market.

A 1966 "zany" sitcom, "The Pruitts Of Southampton" starred the mad cap Phyllis Diller! Unfortunately low ratings forced ABC to retool the show and in January 1967 the show was re-titled "The Phyllis Diller Show" and moved it from Tuesday's at 9pm to Friday's at 9:30pm! I guess the damage was done because by the end of the season the "Pruitts" were cancelled:-( Silly sitcom yes, but no sillier than The Lucy Show over on CBS! BTW the exterior shot of the Pruitts home is actually the Biltmore Estate in NC!

This is probably the most boring image on the whole of this site! But who remembers laboriously keying in BASIC code from computer mags - just to play some silly computer game. It's a bit more interesting if you view my blog post for June 3.
