One of my favorite movies, and Jedwgrn's recent trivia compilation showing Gort the Robot, made me think of the ending of this movie where "Klaatu" speaks to the scientist and others in Washington warning them to maintain peace or suffer the consequences of things like Gort! The original movie in my opinion is way better than the 2008 remake with Keanu Reeves. Even the spaceship looked better in the original than the remake! Now if we could just get some real "Gorts" to maintain the peace on this planet today!

This integrated commercial was usually seen at the end of the show during the 1953-'54 season. That's the period when Kellogg's was pushing Sugar Smacks on The Adventures of Superman. By 1955, Clark was plugging Corn Flakes....

Smokey Robinson and The Miracles 'Shop Around', The Supremes 'Where Did Our Love Go'. Followed by the finale, 'Mickey's Monkey', with Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, and everyone else joining in: The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield. With the Earl Van Dyke Sextet. From the Ready Steady Go (RSG), Sound Of Motown TV special, recorded at the Rediffusion TV studios in London on 18 March 1965. This special was mainly Dusty Springfield's idea, to promote the Motown music and artists in Britain. Dusty was an occasional presenter of the weekly Ready Steady Go (which had the tag line... The Weekend Starts Here). She was a big fan of Motown music, and suggested the idea for this special to Vicki Wickham, recording artists manager, and RSG's producer at Rediffusion.

As a kid my Gran always seem to play Scottish country dance and classical music. Imagine my surpise when one day I heard this coming from her record player. Made me love the music of Jim Reeves to this day.

Fred Crane (pictured on the left), the one-time actor whose Southern accent won him a slot as one of Scarlett O'Hara's beaux and the opening line in "Gone With the Wind," has died.
Crane, who played one of the Tarleton twins in the 1939 classic, was 90. His wife, Terry Lynn Crane, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he died on Thursday of complications from diabetes. She declined to give details.
The couple lived in Barnesville south of Atlanta, where they owned a registered historic 1846 Confederate home and Civil War hospital which they operated as Tarleton Oaks, a bed and breakfast that they named for his character in the film, Brent Tarleton.
The other Tarleton twin was played by George Reeves, who later gained TV immortality as Superman.
Born in New Orleans, Crane stumbled into his role on "Gone With the Wind." He was not yet an actor when he accompanied a cousin who wanted to audition for the movie. The casting director liked the 20-year-old's Southern twang, and he wound up being cast.
