British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

There have been a handful of sitcoms that lasted just one episode. This is one of them: the college-based Co-Ed Fever. This CBS show aired just once, on Sunday, February 4, 1979. It followed CBS' screening of the movie Rocky which drew very good ratings. When the overnight ratings for Co-Ed Fever were disappointing, CBS panicked and cancelled its commitment for at least five other episodes which were to have a Monday evening time slot. The show was set in Brewster House at Baxter College, an eastern women's school that had just recently allowed male students to enroll. Total Television calls Co-Ed Fever a "hapless sitcom." Cast member Heather Thomas, who would later have a substantial roll on The Fall Guy, once joked that Co-Ed Fever "was cancelled after the third commercial." Jane Rose, who played Mrs. Selby (the matron at Brewster House), died a few months after Co-Ed Fever was axed. Alexa Kenin (who played Mousie and later had film roles in Little Darlings and Pretty in Pink), died at age 23 in 1985. Her cause of death has never been made public. Here is the show's opening montage.

Here's one for you conspiracy theorists to ponder: Was newspaper columnist Dorothy Kilgallen murdered? Famous for her role as a permanent panelist on the CBS show What's My Line? and for her Voice of Broadway entertainment/gossip column in the New York Journal American, Kilgallen often covered major news events--especially murder trials. She reported on the Sam Sheppard murder trial and the Lindbergh kidnapping case, among others. She also expressed serious doubts about the Warren Commission's investigation of JFK's murder. Kilgallen interviewed Jack Ruby in prison shortly before her death on November 8, 1965. Just hours after she had appeared live and quite chipper on What's My Line? from 10:30 to 11 p.m., the 52-year-old Kilgallen was found dead in her Manhattan home, fully clothed, sitting up on a bed in which she did not sleep still wearing the makeup and false eyelashes she had on the previous night. (Dorothy always removed her false eyelashes before retiring for the night.) A book she had finished reading months ago was on her bed. She needed glasses to read but her spectacles were nowhere near her. Although alcohol and barbiturates were found in her blood stream and a mysterious pink liquid in her stomach, Kilgallen's official cause of death was listed as undetermined. At least three different people in the household claim to have been the first to discover Dorothy dead on the bed: Her secretary, her hairdresser, and her maid. Reports of the time when Dorothy's body was discovered vary wildly--anywhere from about 10:30 a.m. to about 3 p.m. The coroner who did the paperwork was responsible for autopsies in Brooklyn--not Manhattan. Kilgallen's notes from her interview with Jack Ruby were never found--leading conspiracy theorists to wonder whether she had been silenced.

I'm the guy in the hot pink shirt (for attention) in the first two clips that I strung together. I'm asking for an 'R'. I said "In spirit of pirate week I'd like an 'R'!!I tried out in June but never made the first round. I know the written test did me in, it was really tough. So now you know how I really look, but but hair is slightly longer, I get a crew cut in the summers.

Here's a 1973 commercial for Pink Panther Flakes. I remember this ad. Even then I thought a pink breakfast cereal was just plain wrong.

At age 16, Jeanne Crain won a beauty contest as MISS LONG BEACH and became a model; the next year she was named CAMERA GIRL OF 1942, leading to contacts in Hollywood. She debuted on screen in 1943 in THE GANG'S ALL HERE, beginning a starring career that lasted through the '50s.
Crain was frequently cast as the girl next door, and was generally employed to be a pretty face in the midst of light films, but occasionally she got more serious roles, as in PINKY (1949) in which she played a black girl passing for white; for that performance she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, repeating a nomination she got for her role in MARGIE (1946). . .
Her career waned in the '60s, but she continued to appear in films through the '70s.
