Bobby Clarke Toothless Photo This is for Naomi: Bobby Clarke of the Philadelphia Flyers displays the dangers of playing hockey--especially in the days before protective face shields. Clarke's toothless grin became something of a trademark for him.

Dempsey Tunney Long Count It is one of boxing's most talked about incidents. In 1926, boxing master Gene Tunney outpointed slugger Jack Dempsey in Philadelphia to win the world heavyweight crown. Their rematch a year later in Chicago produced the famous 'long count.' Watch as Dempsey floors Tunney but forgets to go to a neutral corner as required by the new rule. Tunney takes a nine count but stays on the canvas for 14 seconds because of Dempsey's gaffe.

Marciano Walcott Rematch 1953 Rocky Marciano makes quick work of Jersey Joe Walcott in their eagerly awaited heavyweight title rematch in 1953. Marciano had taken the title from Walcott with a spectacular 13th-round knockout in Philadelphia in 1952. The rematch, as you will see, is no contest. Marciano wins easily despite Walcott's claim of a quick count.

Ty Cobb Steals Third Base This is a terrific action photo snapped by famed baseball photographer Charles Conlon that is nearly 100 years old! (Some sources date the photo to 1909; others claim it was taken in 1910.) Ty Cobb of the Detroit Tigers steals third base. Jimmy Austin of the Philadelphia Athletics is the third baseman. Austin was upended by Cobb's hard slide. Notice there's no uniform number on Austin's back. They did not come into vogue until the late 1920s.
