Sugar Ray Robinson Perfect Punch Boxing historians generally rate Sugar Ray Robinson's spectacular knockout of middleweight kingpin Gene Fullmer in 1957 as "the perfect punch." Judge for yourself. (The video is out of synch with the commentary.)

Lolita What a great scene from Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film 'Lolita'. In this scene Humbert is checking out a room he's thinking about renting and stumbles upon his deciding factor. Shelley Winters, James Mason, Sue Lyon and Peter Sellers were perfectly cast! Trivia for this is in the Comments.

Another Sexist Folgers Ad You've got to love these old Folger's Coffee commercials from the early 1960s. They're all pretty much the same: Doting wife's biggest concern in life is making the perfect cup of coffee for hubby. She fails miserably until she switches to instant Folger's. Once this crisis is solved, presumably hubby and wife can produce their statistical average of 2.2 children and live the American Dream.

Danny Almonte Scandal 2001 Remeber Danny Almonte? He was the 5-foot-8 star pitcher at the 2001 Little League World Series. Almonte struck out 62 of the 72 batters he faced. He threw a perfect game too. Danny was honored by New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Trouble was Danny was two years too old to be playing in the LLWS. Danny's father, Felipe, had falsified Danny's Dominican Republic birth certificate so it read 1989 instead of 1987. Because Danny towered over most of the other players in the tournament, accusations that he was too old were widespread. The truth was finally uncovered by two journalists from Sports Illustrated. Danny's Bronx, New York team had to forfeit their third-place standing. Felipe Almonte faced charges of filing a false document when he was deported back to the Dominican Republic. To make matters worse, there was no record of Danny attending school in the year his team went to the LLWS. He could not speak any English.

Red Wings vs Prisoners - 1954 While occasional outdoor games have been all the rage in the NHL since 2003, the first known outdoor game played by an NHL team occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 1954 when the Detroit Red Wings played a team comprised of inmates from Marquette Branch Prison. The correctional facility in the state's upper peninsula housed some of the toughest convicts in Michigan. Most were confined to their cells 23 hours per day. Red Wings owner Jack Adams surprisingly agreed to the game--some say it was a personal favor for some notable inmates. A few Red Wings initially feared for their personal safety, but the warden assured them they were in no danger. "We were told we'd be special guests," recalled Ted Lindsay. "The inmates were looking forward to it. If anyone tried to harm us, he'd be dead in two minutes." The prisoners were put to work make to make a viable outdoor rink inside the prison walls. The weather cooperated nicely, with 22-degree Fahrenheit temperatures and no wind, which made the natural ice perfect. Several Red Wings said the ice surface was better than was what found in some NHL buildings. The game was not even close to being competitive. After the Red Wings jumped out to an 18-0 lead after the first period, the score was no longer kept. Several Red Wings joined the prison team for the final two periods to make things a little bit more competitive. Nevertheless, the prisoners presented the victorious Red Wings with a bucket modified to look like a trophy as a memento of their visit and easy triumph. Detroit would win a more substantial trophy--the Stanley Cup--that spring.
