Did This Scare You Out of the Water For anyone who hasn't seen this film, Jaws is a 1975 thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Jaws bears similarities to several literary and artistic works, most notably Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The character of Quint strongly resembles Captain Ahab, the obsessed captain of the Pequod who devotes his life to hunting a sperm whale. Quint's monologue reveals his similar vendetta against sharks, and even his boat, the Orca, is named after the only natural enemy of sharks. A direct reference to these similarities may be found in the original screenplay, which introduced Quint by showing him watching the film version of Moby-Dick. His laughter throughout made people get up and leave the theater (Wesley Strick's screenplay for Cape Fear featured a similar scene). However, the scene from Moby-Dick could not be licensed from Gregory Peck, the owner of the rights. The final scenes of the film, in which the men chase the shark and try to harpoon it with flotation barrels, parallel the chase for Moby-Dick in the novel. We have this in our library and watch it usually once a month. There's something about this film that sticks in my memory, and no, I never went back into the water.

Petticoat Junction theme Petticoat Junction had one of the most recognizable TV themes ever. This is the opening from the first season (1963-64). Petticoat Junction enjoyed its best ratings during that first season and was a staple of the CBS lineup. The show suffered greatly after Bea Benaderet died in 1968 and last aired in September 1970. The black-and-white shows from the first two seasons were never put into syndication. I would have stayed at the Shady Rest Hotel just for the scenery. The scenery's names were Billie Jo, Bobby Jo and Betty Jo.

Rhiannon performed by Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac-Rhiannon-1976..."Rhiannon" is a popular single released by Fleetwood Mac in 1976. The song was the first example of Stevie Nicks' prolific writing, performing and singing within the band. In later years her performing and singing would become even more important in the band's artistry. Nicks is renowned for dramatic live performances of Rhiannon in flowing gowns. "Rhiannon" was voted #488 in The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine. (Most of us, some more then others can never forget this song and the great on stage performance of the band)

Charlie Chaplin sings The only time we ever heard the Little Tramp's voice was in Modern Times (1936) when he sang a nonsense song in a cabaret. If you don't understand the lyrics, it's okay. Nobody does. They are a mishmash of words from several languages with a bit of jibberish thrown in. (Some film historians claim that Chaplin was trying to make the point that actions speak louder than words.) Nevertheless it is rather odd to hear sounds come from the mouth of the silent cinema's greatest star.

Worst TV Show Ever - Turn-On Turn-On is generally regarded as the worst television show ever to grace the airwaves of American TV. Created by Laugh-In producers George Schlatter and Ed Friendly, Turn-On lasted just one broadcast: Wednesday, February 5, 1969. At some ABC afiliates, as Tim Conway explains in this clip, it was yanked off the air before it was finished. Turn-On was similar to Laugh-In. It was 30 minutes of skits and backouts bridged together by weird electronic music. Most of the skits were overly suggestive by 1969 standards. (One featured a comely blonde about to be executed by a firing squad. The head of the squad said, 'This might sound unusual but WE have one final request!' Another skit featured a vending machine that dispensed birth control pills.) Good luck finding clips of this turkey. Apparently the master tape is locked away in a vault somewhere never to be aired again.

Featured Member -Nbmike Hi everyone. My name is Michael ďNbmikeĒ Cormier. I will be turning 44 yrs old this summer, so while I may not be as old as the trees, unicorns, and dinosaurs, Iím definitely older than Compact Discs, MP3 Players, and Plasma TV. I am a single dad to my beautiful daughter Rhiannon (She thinks sheís 14 going on 40, which makes me often feel like Iím 80 lol). Ever since I found this site in November, I have enjoyed the trivia and memories found here. The people here are top notch at providing info when your memory kind of escapes you. I want to thank you all for welcoming me so warmly the last few months, and a big thanks to Steve for creating such a great site. OK, a little about me. I was born here in Saint John, NB Canada in 1965. I grew up in a small community outside of Saint John called Grand Bay, and lived there until I moved to the big city,(lol Ö.big city for NB, population, 70000 or so) In 1984, I started working as a radio announcer in town doing weekend and swing shifts. The job lasted a couple of years, but started a lifelong love with musical trivia, or even trivia in general. It was there that I found out about such things as plagiarism (Brian Wilson can say it was unintentional, but SURFIN USA just sounds like Chuck Berryís SWEET LITTLE SIXTEEN with new lyrics)! We also played vinyl records back in those days, so I kinda feel like a dinosaur sometimes. lol After leaving the radio announcing job, I became a jack of all trades, until nagging back problems left me unemployed in 1994, and now I concentrate on raising my child and trying to develop projects. I have always had an interest in writing comedy, and have written some musical parodies that have made a few people laugh on a few occasions. Iím not egotistical about my writing by any means, but I have a rule of thumb. If Iím not laughing when I write the lyrics, then I keep running scenarios through my mind until I find the funniest scenario to me. I figure if I donít find my writing funny, then how is anybody else supposed to? My hometown has some Hollywood connections. Louis B Mayerís family moved here from overseas when he was a small child, and he grew up here until he left for Massachusetts when in his late teens, Actor Walter Pidgeon was born and raised here, as well as Lyman Ward, who played Ferris Beullerís father, and Donald Sutherland was born here, but moved to Nova Scotia with his family when he was a teen. One Hollywood story I have heard is when Walter Pidgeon screen tested for MGM, Louis B Mayer thought he was sucking up to him, and summoned him to his office, and told him in no uncertain terms, that if Walter thought of putting Saint John NB as his hometown was going to gain him favor in Mayerís eyes, it wasnít going to work. When he told Mr.Mayer that Saint John WAS his hometown, then they had a laugh together. I am desperately shy in real life, but online I come out of my shell usually. I love participating here, just wish I had more time to contribute. Raising a teenager is like studying for a long and hard exam. You hope you have all the right answers, and you spend every waking hour trying to prepare for whatís coming up, but deep in your heart, you know youíre just flying without a net and hoping for the best, but I wouldnít trade her for the world. The funny thing is that twenty years ago, I never though I had what it takes to be a Dad. I look forward to meeting new members and continuing to engage in trivia challenges and sharing memories with all. Thanks again for such a warm welcome here.

Oh My Erica Susan Lucci is best known for playing the larger-than-life diva Erica Kane on the ABC television soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN, on which she has appeared since the show's inception on January 5, 1970. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy" for her work on ALL MY CHILDREN almost every year since 1978. When Lucci didn't win the award after several consecutive nominations, her image in the media began to be lampooned, as she became notoriously synonymous with never winning an Emmy. NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE exploited this by asking her to host an episode (unusual for a daytime serial actor), where her monologue parodied the cast, crew, and even stagehands carrying Emmys of their own in her presence...

Supertrain Anyone remember Supertrain? NBC had high hopes for this TV series about an atomic-powered train that could travel across the country in 36 hours. It had one of the most expensive sets ever designed for a TV series. Vacillating between comedy and drama, the series never attracted much of a following. It lasted only five months before being derailed in 1979. Here are the show's opening credits.
