Then and Now- Erin Murphy- Tabitha on Bewitched The topless photo of Erin Murphy on the internet isn’t what you think. Erin began her career while still in diapers. Discovered by an agent, as her mother pushed her stroller in Los Angeles, Erin got her first job, playing a boy in a commercial for Folgers Coffee, at eleven months. Her next job was a detergent commercial with future President Ronald Reagan. Right before her second birthday, ABC came calling, and Erin was cast as little witch Tabitha Stephens on the top ten sitcom, Bewitched. Millions of fans around the world tuned in to see if Tabitha had inherited magical powers from her mother Samantha. They delighted in Erin’s antics as she turned bullies into bulldogs and bullfrogs, played piano like a maestro and skated like Dorothy Hamill. After eight seasons, 23 Emmy nominations, and 254 episodes, Bewitched gracefully ended without cancellation. Despite the fact that Bewitched was filmed in the 60’s and 70’s, the popularity of the show endures. Entertainment Weekly recently named Bewitched one of the “100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time” and for the 50th Anniversary of TV Guide. Immediately following Bewitched, Erin turned down a part on The Waltons to go to Girl Scout camp, but she didn’t lose her love for the business. During her teens, Erin modeled and did numerous commercials. Today, she is 44 and has worked as a casting director, a makeup artist, a fashion stylist, an acting teacher, a motivational speaker. With her engaging personality, sense of humor and ability to appeal to audiences as diverse as Nickelodeon and Howard Stern, Erin is a popular celebrity host. She’s been featured on numerous programs, look for her on as the host of the Ab Shark infomercial for Thane & the Bun Shaper infomercial for Emson!

Our Gang - Buckwheat One of the most recognizable characters in the Our Gang comedies was William (Buckwheat) Thomas who was a troupe member from 1934 until the series concluded in 1944. Thomas recalled his mother taking him to a tryout at age three--where he was quickly added as a minor character. He was being groomed to replace Stymie as the Gang's black character. Like Farina before him, Buckwheat's gender was a bit of a mystery at first, but he eventually grew into a male role. His trademark 'Otay!' was part of his garbled-English shtick. His wardrobe usually consisted of a striped shirt, a floppy hat, and pants held up by just one suspender. Thomas made an easy transition out of showbiz. He worked as a film laboratory technician for years and also served in the Korean War. (His gravestone wrongly lists him as a WWII veteran.) In August 1980 he was moved to tears after he was given a standing ovation by fans at an Our Gang reunion. Two months later Thomas died suddenly of a heart attack at age 49. Remarkably, Buckwheat got plenty of posthumous fame. Comedian Eddie Murphy had an ongoing Buckwheat-impersonation routine on Saturday Night Live. In 1990, the ABC news program 20/20 aired a segment about a man working in a Tempe, Arizona grocery store who claimed to be Buckwheat. The network was flooded with calls from knowledgeable Our Gang fans who pointed out that the real Buckwheat had died a decade earlier. An angry Spanky McFarland appeared on television to denounce the fraudster, a man named Billie English who had been masquerading as Buckwheat for 30 years. The producer of the 20/20 segment was summarily fired for his shoddy research. Buckwheat's son sued ABC for negligence.

Audie Murphy Plane Crash 1971 Audie Murphy, the most decorated American soldier during the Second World War, died tragically in an airplane crash while commuting to a business meeting. Shortly after noon on May 28, 1971, during Memorial Day weekend, Murphy was killed when his private plane crashed into Brush Mountain, near Catawba, Virginia, 20 miles west of Roanoke. The pilot and four other passengers were also killed. In 1974, a large granite memorial marker was erected near the crash site. Most people believe Murphy was 47 years old when he died, but there is strong evidence that points to his true age being a year younger.
