In concert 1970 with the environmentalist "Big Yellow Taxi". Joni Mitchell, was born Roberta Joan Anderson on November 7, 1943, in Fort Macleod, Alberta. She is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and painter. Her
singing began in small nightclubs and busking on the streets of Toronto and in her native Western Canada. She subsequently became associated with the fast growing folk music scene of the mid-1960s in New York City. Later, while she was playing one night in "The Gaslight South", a club in Florida, David Crosby walked in and was immediately struck by her ability and her appeal as an artist. He took her back to Los Angeles, where he set about introducing her and her music to his friends. Mitchell achieved fame in the late 1960's and was considered a key part of the Southern California folk rock scene. Throughout the 1970's, she explored and combined the pop and jazz genres. She's amassed a body of work that is highly respected by both critics and fellow musicians.

This is one of these songs that have so many versions. Funny how little things will strike a chord in ones memory. All it took to recall this one was the word, swinging. Bing Crosby in the guise of a priest was a thing that most will remember, and the amount of films from around this time that had this kind of storyline are too many to mention. This clip is from, Going My Way, A two tissue box movie.

For some reason I remember this being from the 50's, but in any case this was such a pretty little song, and as the drama queen I was back then, it made me cry every time I heard it! Shelby Flint was a singer who had two top-100 hits, 'Angel on My Shoulder' in 1961 and 'Cast Your Fate to the Wind' in 1966. She's been a voice actress in several movies including, 'Snoopy Come Home' and 'The Rescuers'. Among the songs she performed for The Rescuers, 'Someone's Waiting for You' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1978. In a recent interview, folk singer, Joni Mitchell confessed that when she began making the rounds of the folk open mic circuit she wanted to sound just like Shelby Flint.

My favorite episode from the glory years of Columbo is 'Try And Catch Me' from 1977. In it Ruth Gordon plays a famous mystery writer named Abigail Mitchell. Mitchell kills the ne'er-do-well husband of her late beloved niece because she thinks he killed his wife. (Got it?) This scene is especially appealing to me because Columbo outlines why he likes his job--and hints that he knows that Abigail Mitchell is a murderess.
