Pedal Powered Washing Machine Bart Orlando demonstrates that one person has the power to wash clothes in a pedal powered Wringer washing machine. The wringer eliminates the spin dry function, standard on modern washing machines. One person can do 1/3 of a normal load of laundry in about 30 minutes. An exercise bike is substituted for the orignal 2hp 110v electric motor. A fan-belt is rapped around the flywheel of the exercise bike and a pulley which drives the original transmission of the Wringer Washer. . . humm . .

Jeanne Crain At age 16, Jeanne Crain won a beauty contest as MISS LONG BEACH and became a model; the next year she was named CAMERA GIRL OF 1942, leading to contacts in Hollywood. She debuted on screen in 1943 in THE GANG'S ALL HERE, beginning a starring career that lasted through the '50s. Crain was frequently cast as the girl next door, and was generally employed to be a pretty face in the midst of light films, but occasionally she got more serious roles, as in PINKY (1949) in which she played a black girl passing for white; for that performance she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, repeating a nomination she got for her role in MARGIE (1946). . . Her career waned in the '60s, but she continued to appear in films through the '70s.

Canadians at Hong Kong 1941 This is the tail end of an excellent Canadian documentary about the defense of Hong Kong in 1941. In December 1941, some 2,000 green Canadian troops were sent to bolster the exotic British outpost against an expected Japanese attack. It was a suicide mission. The Japanese attacked with about 90,000 battle-hardened troops. The heroic defense of Hong Kong lasted about three weeks before the inevitable surrender. Japanese troops brutally murdered wounded hospitalized defenders. Captured Canadian and British troops were shipped to slave labor camps where they existed in horrid conditions for nearly four years. Lest we forget...

Rita Hayworth vs Madonna this is very similar to a post of Babs, but i still think it's worth a look! In this clip she is dancing with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly to Madonna's VOGUE. The footage is from COVER GIRL, YOU'LL NEVER GET RICH, YOU WERE NEVER LOVLIER, GILDA, THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI, AFFAIR IN TRINIDAD, and MISS SADIE THOMPSON. . .

Ann Bancroft Born as Anna Maria Italiano in the Bronx in 1931, Anne Bancroft didn't quite fall into the category of a 'classic' actress. She didn't break into films until 1952. But she appeared on screen with Marilyn Monroe, Richard Widmark, Cornel Wilde, Susan Hayward, and Victor Mature. After appearing in her first film, but not really finding the roles she wanted, she returned to New York and the stage, finding success, and a Tony award opposite Henry Fonda in 'Two For the Seesaw' (1958). The following year she appeared in the stage version of 'The Miracle Worker', and eventually returned to Hollywood in 1962, starring with Patty Duke in the film adaptation of the play, and winning a Best Actress Oscar with her first nomination. She was on a roll throughout the 60's, including a second Best Actress Oscar nomination for 'The Pumpkin Eater' (1964), then '7 Women' (1966), and finally her famous role as Mrs. Robinson in 'The Graduate' (1967), resulting in another Oscar nomination and a lifetime association with the part. She was nominated five times for Best Actress. Ann was married to the great comedy director Mel Brooks since 1964, and worked with him many times. She was still a very young 73 years old when she passed away on June 6, 2005, and is missed by so many of us.
