Documents and Other Evidence from JFK Assassination Plot Revealed Today Brass knuckles and a pistol holster that were in Jack Ruby's possession at the time of his arrest after he murdered Lee Harvey Oswald were presented along with other historical documents and memorabilia connected to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy during a press conference in Dallas today. Long-hidden items and documents related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy were revealed for the first time after spending nearly two decades locked inside a courthouse safe. Dallas County DA Craig Watkins presented the articles at a Presidents' Day news conference while standing next to brown and white file boxes stacked in a pyramid. The items include a purported transcript between Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald and Oswald's killer, nightclub owner Jack Ruby; a leather gun holster that held the weapon Ruby used to shoot Oswald; brass knuckles found on Ruby when he was arrested; and a movie contract signed by then-Dallas District Attorney Henry Wade. Watkins said investigators told him about the contents of the blue, two-door safe shortly after he took office in 2007. 'And every DA up until the new administration decided that they wanted to keep it secret,' he said. But he decided 'this information was too important to keep secret.' One of the most intriguing items was the typed transcript of an alleged conversation between Oswald and Ruby. The transcript - which hasn't been examined by experts and has already been called farfetched by some - includes talk of killing the president at the behest of the Mafia.

Walk Tall Heard this today and got that cold shiver of nostalgia. The version of this I remember was done by a UK performer called Val Doonican who had a popular TV show for over twenty years 60's to the 80's. But like Val, Faron had an intersting history so thought I'd post his version. Both are from 1964 one for your side of the pond and one for mine.

1884 Political Cartoon Think presidential election campaigns are nasty now? They're quite tame compared to the good old days. In 1884 the Democrats learned that Republican candidate Grover Cleveland was making chid support payments to a young woman named Maria Halpirn. Cleveland admitted he may have been the child's father, but there were numerous other prominent men who had sampled the horizontal refreshments in the willing Miss Halpirn's boudoir. (Cleveland apparently took responsbility because he was the only bachelor among Miss Halpirn's plentiful beaus!) Democrats mocked Cleveland with the chant, 'Ma! Ma! Where's my pa?' After Cleveland won the election, the Dems added, 'Gone to the White House...ha, ha, ha!'

Bill Barilko Mystery One of the oddest sports stories ever is the disappearance of Bill Barilko of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the spring of 1951, Barilko became a Leafs hero when he scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens. That summer, Barilko and a dentist friend, Dr. Henry Hudson, flew to northern Quebec in the dentist's private plane to do some fishing on the Seal River. For their return home, they loaded the plane's pontoons with 120 pounds of fish they had caught, took off for southern Ontario--and were not seen alive again. The RCMP began a huge search for the missing men. (Some thought the police's interest in the case was far beyond what might be expected.) Nearly eleven years passed before the plane's wreckage was discovered in a densely wooded area of northern Ontario. The skeletal remains of Barilko and Hudson were found in the plane. Oddly enough, the plane was facing the opposite direction one would expect--and the 120 pounds of fish were not found in the pontoons. One persistent and fascinating rumor insists that Barilko, who hailed from a gold-mining community, was using his dentist friend as a mule to move a significant quantity of gold nuggets and dust he had illegally obtained from the mine. (Since dentists need gold for fillings, they have connections with gold suppliers.) The plane's pontoons had mysteriously been sliced open.
