here at age 17 (her studio says 16), had her first pin-up photo shot taken. This was taken right after she was in HOLIDAY IN MEXICO in 1946. (PLOT "Ambassador Jeffrey Evans (Walter Pidgeon), a widower living in Mexico, has his hands full with his teenage daughter Christine (Jane Powell). Christine runs the entire household and tries to manage her father's private life as well. But love threatens to wreck all her carefully made plans: an earnest young classmate (Roddy McDowall) is hopelessly in love with her. . .Ambassador Evans is smitten with a beautiful singer (Ilona Massey). . .and poor Christine isn't sure where she fits in anymore! Top top it all off, Christine develops a crush on famed pianist Jose Iturbi, who is much older than she."

Michael Todd breezed into Elizabeth Taylor's life on June 23, 1956....and sadly breezed out just as quickly on March 22, 1958. But during their time together, they accumulated a lifetime worth of memories. They traveled all over the world promoting the Mike Todd spectacularly produced Oscar winning, AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, as well as promoting Elizabeth's movie epics, GIANT and RAINTREE COUNTRY.
They married in Mexico in February 1957, days after Elizabeth obtained her divorce from second husband, Michael Wilding.
Mike's death devastated Elizabeth to the point of propelling her into a state of self destruction when she did not care if she lived or died. In fact, she had to come close to death (herself) before appreciating living again. Mike and Elizabeth's love story is a special one...and their time together was so very short but so very potent. Elizabeth, today, claims he was one of the great loves of her life ...

The most mind-boggling one-shot achievement in sports history (in my humble opinion) occurred at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. American Bob Beamon obliterated the world record for the long jump by nearly two feet! To put this in perspective, until Beamon's fateful leap, the world record in the long jump had only advanced eight inches in the previous 32 years. Beamon's record leap of 8.90 metres stood until 1991. Beamon still holds the Olympic record.

A young Requel Welch dances in a kitchy video made in the 1970's for her television special, 'Raquel'. The bizarre sculptures were part of the Ruta de la Amistad public sculpture project at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, if anyone noticed...

Lucia Zarate looked like a doll and weighed less than most house cats. Born in San Carlos, Mexico in 1864, Zarate is considered the lightest person who ever lived. At maturity, the perfectly formed, doll-like woman stood less than 20 inches tall and weighed about five pounds. Billed as the Mexican Lilliputian, Lucia first appeared on tour in the United States at age 12. Her pay reputedly rose to $20 per hour--a fantastic figure in the 1870s. Unfortunately her career ended in tragedy. Zarate was travelling by train through the Rocky Mountains in 1890. The train stalled during a snowstorm and the fragile Zarate died of exposure.
