Mark Twain at Home Silent film footage taken in 1909 by Thomas Edison at Stormfield (Redding)(CT) at Mark Twain's estate. Twain is shown walking around his home and playing cards with his daughters Clara and Jean. The flickering is due to film deterioration, but this is the only known footage of the great author.

Final Issue of Life Magazine 1972 Life, the magazine that turned photo-journalism into an artform, ceased publication in 1972. It had been a weekly 'general audience' magazine since 1936. A staple at newsstands, at one point it sold more than 13 million copies per week. By 1969, with general-interest magazines losing popularity, Life was no longer profitable. The December 29, 1972 year-in-review issue marked the end of Life. The word 'goodbye' appeared on the back cover.

Handle Me With care This is The Traveling Wilburys with such a line up as George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn. It's just a pity that Roy died in 1988 and to mark this volume two which was in production was shelved. Volume 3 missed his unique voice.

All The Young Dudes written by David Bowie "Well Billy rapped all night about his suicide How he'd kick it in the head when he was 25. Speed jive. Don't wanna stay alive when you're 25. And Wendy's stealing clothes from Marks & Sparks And Freddie's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face. Funky little boat race. The television man is crazy Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks. I need T.V. when I got T-Rex. Oh brother, you guessed, I'm a dude now. CHORUS: All the young dudes (hey dudes) Carry the news (where are ya) Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on) Carry the news All the young dudes (I want to hear you) Carry the news (I want to see you) Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you) Carry the news Now Lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen But he can kick like a mule; it's a real mean team. But, we can love. Yes, we can love. And my brother's back home with his Beatles and his Stones. We never got off with that revolution stuff. What a drag. Too many snags. Well, I drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine. Gonna race some cat to bed. Oh man, is this concrete all around Or is it all in my head. Brother, I'm a dude now. All the young dudes (hey dudes) Carry the news (where are ya) Boogaloo dudes (stand up) Carry the news All the young dudes (I want to hear ya) Carry the news (I want to see you) Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you) Carry the news All the young dudes (what dudes) Carry the news (lets hear the news come on) Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you) Carry the news All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses) Carry the news (I want you) Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front) Carry the news (now you all his friends) All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him) Carry the news Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on) Carry the news (bring him here you go) All the young dudes (Ive wanted to do this for years) Carry the news (there you go) Boogaloo dudes (how do you feel) Carry the news " . . .

How the internet saved Russia from the hardliners This is from Google, see the link http://www.google.com/help/netneutrality_letter.html The Internet as we know it is facing a serious threat. There's a debate heating up in Washington, DC on something called net neutrality and it's a debate that's so important Google is asking you to get involved. We're asking you to take action to protect Internet freedom. In the next few days, the House of Representatives is going to vote on a bill that would fundamentally alter the Internet. That bill, and one that may come up for a key vote in the Senate in the next few weeks, would give the big phone and cable companies the power to pick and choose what you will be able to see and do on the Internet. Today the Internet is an information highway where anybody no matter how large or small, how traditional or unconventional has equal access. But the phone and cable monopolies, who control almost all Internet access, want the power to choose who gets access to high-speed lanes and whose content gets seen first and fastest. They want to build a two-tiered system and block the on-ramps for those who can't pay. Creativity, innovation and a free and open marketplace are all at stake in this fight. Please call your representative (202-224-3121) and let your voice be heard. Thanks for your time, your concern and your support. Eric Schmidt-Google

60th Anniversary Liberation of Holland Want to have a good time in the Netherlands? Wear something that identifies you as Canadian! In April 1945 the Dutch people were liberated from five years of Nazi occupation by forces largely comprised of Canadian troops. The Dutch have never forgotten the sacrifices made by the Canadians and are extremely grateful to this day. Here is a 2005 clip from the 60th anniversary celebrations of the liberation. The old gent shown for a few moments at the 4:05 mark is Smokey Smith, Canada's last Victoria Cross winner. He died a few months later.
