Marian Mercer Passes at age 75 Marian Mercer, whose five-decade career also included dozens of television appearances, has died in California at age 75. Her husband, Patrick Hogan, tells the Los Angeles Times that Mercer died April 27 of Alzheimer's disease complications in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks, about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Besides her 1969 Broadway hit "Promises, Promises," Mercer won praise for the 1978 revival of "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off" co-starring Sammy Davis Jr. On television, she starred in the ABC-TV comedy "It's a Living" from 1980 to 1982. She also had roles on "St. Elsewhere," ''Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" and "Love, American Style." Besides her husband of 31 years, Mercer is survived by a daughter, Deirdre Whitaker, of Seattle.

Greg Maddux HOF plaque Fails Grammar Test Greg Maddux was one of baseball's greatest pitchers. He is undoubtedly worthy of being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. However, when his plaque was unveiled at the 2014 induction ceremony, grammarians gasped at a flagrant error in he inscription. His plaque states Maddux had "less than 1,000 walks" in his illustrious career. Because walks is a plural noun, the plaque should have read "fewer than 1,000 walks..."

1970s Sitcom Flop - Sugar Time Here's a short-lived sitcom from the 1970s that, if it's remembered at all, it's mostly recalled by teenage boys. Sugar Time aired on ABC for just 13 episodes in the 1977-78 season. The show revolved around three attractive young ladies who formed a musical group called Sugar, but also held regular jobs. The threesome tried to break into the singing business by working free of charge at a local nightclub. The show's stars were Barbi Benton (as Maxx), Marianne Black (as Maggie), and Didi Carr (as Diane). Four episodes were aired in the summer of 1977. According to the reference book Total Television, the remaining nine episodes were scattered "irregularly thereafter." This is the opening montage. (An odd snippet of trivia: Didi Carr did very little acting after Sugar Time was cancelled in May 1978. She married a rabbi in 1984--and apparently is still wed to him--but she became a staunch atheist! That must be awkward!)
