During a time when teenagers were doing the jitterbug and Uncle Sam was asking young men to enlist, The Andrews Sisters were America’s most popular female singing group. Patty, the youngest sister, was a loud and energetic blond who headed the group with her confident vocals. The middle sister was Maxene, a brunette, whose harmonic range gave the impression of four voices instead of three. Finally, completing the trio was the eldest, LaVerne, a strong willed red head with a witty sense of humor and an eye for fashion.

The popular sitcom Laverne and Shirley was heavily censored before it could be shown in Thailand. Why? It is considered immoral for two unrelated, single women to share a home in that country. How did Thai censors get around that problem? A disclaimer before each episode explained that Laverne and Shirley were two escapees from a lunatic asylum!

One of the worst sitcoms ever to grace the American TV airwaves was 'Me And The Chimp.' It ran for 19 painful weeks on CBS from January 13 to May 18, 1972 before being yanked. Ted Bessell starred as dentist Mike Reynolds. Anita Gillette played his wife Liz. The plot revolved around the Reynolds family taking in a runway chimpanzee, and the primate's subsequent misadventures. This TV turkey was created by Garry Marshall and Tom Miller. Both later worked on major hit shows Happy Days and Laverne And Shirley.

Actress Betty Garrett, best known for her roles on both All In The Family and Laverne & Shirley, died in Los Angeles on February 12, 2011. She was 91. Garrett played the Bunkers' neighbor, Irene Lorenzo, for three seasons. Her character was an atypical female for the era. (She was skilful with tools and machinery while her husband's domain was the kitchen.) After leaving the AITF cast, she took the role of Edna Babish, the girls' landlord on Laverne & Shirley, for which she won a Golden Globe as best supporting actress.
