Truth Justice and the American Way My favorite show as a kid. I can still recite the opening theme from memory. I used to tie red towels around my neck and leap from my bed.

NIGHT GALLERY THE ESCAPE ROUTE Ending The third and final story from the 1969 pilot of Night Gallery, entitled The Escape Route, starred Richard Kiley, and centered around an escaped Nazi war criminal living in South America and haunted by his past. He begins to visit a museum where he is drawn to a painting of a fisherman on a lake. It's such a peaceful setting, that he becomes obsessed with it and soon begins to see himself as the figure in the boat. He is soon recognized by a survivor of the camps, played by Sam Jaffe. When Israeli agents are about to catch up to him, he flees into the museum, and to the painting, there he begs God to take him into the painting. What he doesn't realize is, the painting has been moved and in it's place is one portraying the brutality of the holocaust. I think with all three stories, Rod was showing us that after all is said and done, there is justice.

Peter Paul and Mary Peter, Paul and Mary were one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s. The trio comprises Peter Yarrow, Noel "Paul" Stookey and Mary Travers. They recorded their first album, Peter, Paul and Mary, the following year. It included "500 Miles", "Lemon Tree" and the Pete Seeger hit tunes "If I Had a Hammer" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?". The album was listed on the Billboard Magazine Top Ten list for ten months and in the Top One Hundred for over three years. By 1963 they had recorded three albums. All three were in the Top 10 the week of President Kennedy's assassination. That year the group also released "Puff the Magic Dragon", which Yarrow and Leonard Lipton had written in 1959, and performed "If I Had a Hammer" at the 1963 March on Washington, best remembered for Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. Their biggest hit single was the Bob Dylan song "Blowin' in the Wind," an international #1 and the fastest selling single ever cut by Warner Bros. Records. They also sang other Bob Dylan songs, such as "The Times They Are a-Changin'" or "When the Ship Comes In". For many years after, the group was at the forefront of the civil rights movement and other causes promoting social justice. "Leaving On A Jet Plane," which in December 1969 became their only #1 hit, was written by John Denver, and first appeared on their Album 1700 in 1967. "Day Is Done," a #21 hit in June 1969, was the last Hot 100 hit the trio recorded.

Happy 63rd Wayne Fontana Remember Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, and their hit song The Game of Love, from 1965? Here's some interesting facts. In 1962, he formed his group Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders and got a recording contract. He was still under contract to Fontana Records after parting with The Mindbenders. He continued on alone, using musicians under the name of the Opposition. Sometimes they were billed as the Mindbenders, or just as the Wayne Fontana band. In 2005 he fought off bankruptcy, but was arrested after police were called in by bailiffs who went to his home in Glossop, Derbyshire. It is claimed that gasoline had been poured onto the hood of a car, and set on fire with a bailiff inside. Fontana was remanded in custody on May 25, 2007, in regard to the charge. He appeared at Derby Crown Court dressed as the lady of justice, with a sword, scales, crown, cape and dark glasses, claiming "justice is blind". He dismissed his lawyers. All that being said, you have to admit he's still a talented musician. Here's a clip I put together from The Game of Love taped in 1965, and more recently during a show in 2006. They're still doing concerts, and at 63, Wayne Fontana hasn't lost it yet, at least not his voice!

Aimee Semple McPherson Scandal 1926 Sex scandals involving evangelists are not new. The first one occurred back in 1926, when the leading radio evangelist of the day, Aimee Semple McPherson, was allegedly involved in a doozy with a married man. On May 18, 1926, the 35-year-old McPherson arrived at Ocean Park Beach in California with her secretary for a day of swimming. Shortly after their arrival, McPherson disappeared. McPherson's mother delivered a sermon that night in place of Aimee and informed the congregation that Aimee was 'with Jesus.' The following day, hundreds of concerned parishioners ventured to Ocean Park Beach to look for their beloved Sister Aimee. One parishioner drowned and another died of exposure in the unsuccessful search. Not long after Aimee vanished, Kenneth G. Ormiston, the married engineer of the radio station McPherson owned, also disappeared. Five weeks later, Aimee emerged from the Mexican desert in a town just across the border from Douglas, Arizona. She claimed she had been kidnapped, drugged, tortured, and held for ransom in a shack. Aimee further stated she had escaped from her captors and walked 13 hours through the desert to freedom. Her story was implausible, to say the least. No shack was ever found. Aimee's shoes showed no signs of a 13-hour desert trek. (Moreover, they had grass stains on them!) She was last seen wearing a bathing suit, but reappeared in a dress and wearing a wristwatch she hadn't taken to the beach. Several witnesses claimed they had seen McPherson with Ormiston at various motels during the 35 days she was missing. McPherson and her mother were eventually charged with obstruction of justice, but the charges were dropped early the following year.

Leon Czolgosz Execution This is a re-creation of the execution of Leon Czolgosz. Czolgosz was a self-styled anarchist who shot president William McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York on September 6, 1901. McKinley, struck twice at point-blank range, died of his wounds eight days later. There was swift justice in those days: Czolgosz's trial took place on September 23. It lasted a little more than eight hours. Czolgosz was convicted of murder and sentenced to die in the electric chair in Auburn, New York on October 29. Thomas Edison's company filmed this re-creation of the execution based on the testimony of witnesses.

Adolf Eichmann Found Guilty Adolf Eichmann, one of the architects of the Holocaust, is found guilty of crimes against humanity at his trial in Israel. Eichmann, who was sentenced to death, had been living in Buenos Aires under an assumed name. He was captured by Israeli secret service agents and spirited out of Argentina. The Argentine government was furious with Israel for violating its 'sovereign rights,' but allowed Israel to try Eichmann for the sake of justice.

The Exorcist Father Merrin Arrives The triva picture of Father Merrin arriving to perform an exorcism just doesn't do it justice so I made a quick video of it since I have the movie in digital format. The scene in the movie doesn't have the song "Tubular Bells" playing during the scene but I added it for effect! In the scene you'll see "Regan" or should I say the "Demon" realizing Father Merrin has been summond and also knows when he arrives. About 1 minute long....
