1903 World Series Scorecard In days gone by, all serious baseball fans used to manually keep a batter-by-batter record of ballgames on scorecards. (Some of us still do, although the custom appears to be dying out.) For the first modern World Series in 1903, the Third Base Saloon in Boston sold their own version to fans heading to the Huntington Avenue Base Ball Grounds to watch the American League champion Boston Pilgrims battle the National League champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Although the 10-cent price of this scorecard seems ridiculously cheap by today's standards, it was double the cost of what scorecards normally sold for at the ballpark during the regular season. However, it was five cents cheaper than the 15-cent pricetag the Pilgrims had affixed to the World Series scorecards sold by their vendors. The Boston Globe editorialized the hometown club was 'squeezing the dear public.'

SuperBall Invented - 1964 The SuperBall (originally Super Ball) was invented in 1964 by chemist Norman Stingley. It was created by compressing a synthetic rubber material under high pressure. It is an extremely elastic ball made of Zectron, which contains the synthetic rubber polymer polybutadiene, as well as hydrated silica, zinc oxide, stearic acid, and other ingredients vulcanized with sulfur at a temperature of 165 degrees Celsius and at a pressure of 3,500 pounds per square inch. Dropped from shoulder level, a SuperBall will typically bounce to 92% of its release height. Thrown down with force by an average adult onto a hard surface, it can bounce over a three-story building. During its first year, more than 170,000 SuperBalls were produced each day by Wham-O. "It took us nearly two years to iron the kinks out of SuperBall before we produced it." according to Richard Knerr, president of Wham-O. "It always had that marvelous springiness but it had a tendency to fly apart. We've licked that with a very high-pressure technique for forming it. Now we're selling millions." By December 1965, more than six million SuperBalls had been sold at 98 cents apiece. The toy also indirectly gave its name to one of America's great sporting spectacles: The Super Bowl. American Football League president Lamar Hunt coined the phrase for the new NFL-AFL championship game after seeing his children play with a SuperBall. (He didn't think the name was especially good, though.)

Wheres Waldo One of Many great Kids books of the 90s Oh, Waldo, how you continue to thwart our valiant search efforts. Despite your obvious penchant for flamboyantly candy cane striped red and white sweater/hat combos and your tendency to take along every possible piece of travel equipment on your obscenely crowded vacations, you still manage to boggle our minds with your mysterious whereabouts. In the original book, Waldo lugs along a walking stick, sleeping bag, mallet, drinking cup, binoculars, kettle, backpack, camera, snorkel, belt, another bag, and a shovel. Clearly, if he's going get lost in a crowd, he's got every imaginable amenity to walk, sleep, pound, drink, see, boil, carry, document photographically, dive, remain in pants, store more items, or dig his way out. That's right, it makes perfect sense. With "Waldo-mania" sweeping the country throughout the 1990s, there seemed to be no one without vested stake or interest in finding this bespectacled excursionist. There was something oddly if inexplicably satisfying about curling up with a big hardcover picture book and focusing on crowded, chaotic scenes until your eyes crossed. It wasn't just Waldo we were after, either; he brought with him a gang of of absurd cronies and/or nemeses. There was Wanda, Waldo's pal. Woof, his faithful canine companion. After that is where things got a bit weird. These were from the 90's: Where's Wally? The Ultimate Fun Book (1990) Where's Wally? The Magnificent Poster Book (1991) Where's Wally? The Dazzling Deep-sea Divers Sticker Book (1994) Where's Wally? The Fabulous Flying Carpets Sticker Book (1994) Where's Wally? In Hollywood (1993) Where's Wally? The Wonder Book (1997) Where's Wally? The Great Picture Hunt (2006) Where's Wally? The Incredible Paper Chase (2009)

Hidden Treasures Cereal from August 1994 Hidden Treasures was a short-lived breakfast cereal by General Mills. Introduced in 1993, alongside Sprinkle Spangles, the cereal consisted of sweetened corn squares that all looked the same, but were meant to be filled with a fruity filling. The icing filling flavors were cherry, orange and grape. To emphasize the treasure hunt dynamic, some pieces had no icing filling, and were hollow. Thanks to the process by which the icing filled pieces were made, clever children would have little difficulty noticing the pattern: pieces with a seam very close to the edge were grape, off-center orange, and directly center seams had cherry. Hidden Treasures was discontinued by 1995. August 1994. I recall these "Treasures" have a gummy jell in the middle of each square. Gotta love the kid rockin the flannel hoodie, so that we know it's is "1994."

The New Treasure Hunt - 1974 Clip The New Treasure Hunt was a 1974-1977 syndicated remake of a 1956-1959 game show. The orginal show had a quiz segment. The 1970s version did not. Hosted by Geoff Edwards, it offered a fantastic grand prize of $25,000 to a contest who was lucky enough to choose the right box out of 30--and have the nerve to stick with it. Total Television describes the program as "slow moving and cruelly suspenseful." In this short clip from a 1974 episode, a contestant thinks she has made a bad bargain until Geoff surprises her.
