The Blues Image Ride Captain Ride Sending this one out to SWEETS50. "Ride Captain Ride" is a song recorded by the American rock band Blues Image. The song was co-written by the band's singer-guitarist Mike Pinera and keyboardist Frank "Skip" Konte. It was included on the group's 1970 album, Open. Released as a slightly shortened single in the spring of 1970, it shot up the charts, eventually reaching #4, making it Blues Image's first (and only) chart hit. The tasty clean guitar fills and main solo were performed by Kent Henry. Mike Pinera plays the rocking guitar solo at the end of the song.

Bill Barilko Mystery One of the oddest sports stories ever is the disappearance of Bill Barilko of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the spring of 1951, Barilko became a Leafs hero when he scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens. That summer, Barilko and a dentist friend, Dr. Henry Hudson, flew to northern Quebec in the dentist's private plane to do some fishing on the Seal River. For their return home, they loaded the plane's pontoons with 120 pounds of fish they had caught, took off for southern Ontario--and were not seen alive again. The RCMP began a huge search for the missing men. (Some thought the police's interest in the case was far beyond what might be expected.) Nearly eleven years passed before the plane's wreckage was discovered in a densely wooded area of northern Ontario. The skeletal remains of Barilko and Hudson were found in the plane. Oddly enough, the plane was facing the opposite direction one would expect--and the 120 pounds of fish were not found in the pontoons. One persistent and fascinating rumor insists that Barilko, who hailed from a gold-mining community, was using his dentist friend as a mule to move a significant quantity of gold nuggets and dust he had illegally obtained from the mine. (Since dentists need gold for fillings, they have connections with gold suppliers.) The plane's pontoons had mysteriously been sliced open.

Peter Sellers Pink Panther I laughed at these clips until I literally had tears streaming down my face. NO matter how many times I watch them, they're still the best comedies that have ever been on the big screen. And Peter Sellers was a natural, his type of comedy can't be learned, it's a gift! So enjoy!

The Lords of Flatbush Trailer Anybody remember the 1974 movie The Lords of Flatbush? It is most noteworthy for starring a pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler before he became really famous on Happy Days.

Once Upon a Time in America Once we were proud nation.. there was nothing we couldn't do, or accomplish. There was noting that we couldn't manufacture for ourselves. This was the American Spirit. It was what made this country the envy of every nation in the world. Now, as one TV commentator put it, "We have become suicidally arrogant ... we have the attitude that there isn't anything anyone won't sell us." It has been argued that "America holds no resemblance to the once great nation for which our forebears fought and died. Given the rapidity with which America has forsaken its heritage, can you imagine what it will look like 50 years from now?" - Chuck Baldwin Once can only wonder. But, Once Upon A Time In America, it was truly a great and promising place to be. Three First World War Vets I found this remarkable photo on a British news website. It was taken today (November 11, 2008) at the British Armistice Day service in London. It shows three of the four surviving British First World War veterans. From left to right: 112-year-old Henry Allingham, 110-year-old Harry Patch, and 108-year-old Bill Stone. Allingham was an aviator, Patch was in the army, Stone was in the navy. (The fourth surviving veteran, 107-year-old Claude Choules, lives in Australia.)
