Actor Brad Renfro, whose career began promisingly with a childhood role in 'The Client', but rapidly faded as he struggled with drugs and alcohol, was found dead Tuesday, January 15th, 2008, in his home. He was 25. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 9 a.m., said Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The cause of death was not immediately determined, Harvey said, but an autopsy could be conducted as early as Wednesday. Renfro had reportedly been drinking with friends the evening before his death, Harvey said. His lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said he did not know whether the death was connected to any problems with addiction. 'He was working hard on his sobriety,' Kaplan said. 'He was doing well. He was a nice person.' Renfro recently completed a role in "The Informers," a film adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel that stars Winona Ryder, Brandon Routh and Billy Bob Thornton. 'Brad was an exceptionally talented young actor and our time spent with him was thoroughly enjoyable,' Marco Weber, president of the film's production house, Senator Entertainment, said in a statement.
This clip is from the film 'The Cure', which was released in 1995.

Dear JibJabber,
Three years ago, my brother and I conceived JokeBox as a place on the web for people to share laughs. Since then, an amazing community has flourished around that idea and built the biggest joke database in the world. Today, JokeBox has over 140,000 video, text, photo and audio jokes that have been seen hundreds of millions of times. Given that success, it is with deep regret that we are announcing that we are taking JokeBox offline as of December 11, 2008.........
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It is our sincere hope that we can bring the non-video and audio elements of JokeBox back online in 2009. To that end, we will keep you posted on our progress. Thanks for your support, understanding and, most of all, for sharing so many laughs on JokeBox over the years; No one is going to miss it more than we are.
Sincerely,
Evan and Gregg Spiridellis

This is a photo of former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Doc Ellis, who died of a liver ailment at age 63 on December 19, 2008. His heyday was the early 1970s. Ellis is most famous for throwing a no-hitter versus the San Diego Padres on June 12, 1970 when he was tripping on LSD.

The first MLB All-Star Game I ever watched was the 1971 contest from Detroit. Reggie Jackson came to the plate in the bottom of the third inning against Dock Ellis. Reggie connected for a titanic blast that hit a transformer atop Tiger Stadium's right field roof.

In the early seasons of Cheers, some of the funniest episodes centered around the antics of Nick Tortelli, the sleazy ex-husband of Cheers barmaid Carla. Played by Dan Hedaya, Nick was a TV repairman who eventually married ex-showgirl Loretta (played by Jean Kasem and described by Total Television as "statuesque but dippy"). NBC figured the duo of Nick and Loretta had the potential to be comedy gold, so in January 1987 they were given their own sitcom titled The Tortellis. The show's premise was that Nick and his trophy wife had already split up and Loretta had returned to Las Vegas. They reconcile in the pilot episode and remain in Nevada in a crowded household. The couple lived with Nick's oldest son and his teenage wife--and Nick's pragmatic sister and her young son. The show never caught on, despite occasional special appearances by Cheers cast members. The Tortellis was dropped by NBC after the 13th episode aired on May 12, 1987 less than four months after its debut. Nick and Loretta made one more appearance on Cheers in which it was explained that Nick's TV repair business had failed.
