Established in 1883, the team originated in Brooklyn, New York, where it was known as the Brooklyn Dodgers, before moving to Los Angeles before the 1958 season; which is why I posted it in 1950s.

In 1965 when I graduated high school my dad FINALLY let me get my driver's license so I could get a car and a job. Of course he went with me because he was going to make the down payment, so I had to really talk him into the car I wanted, as it was a 1963 fire engine red Dodge Dart GT ragtop. It was gorgeous, at least to me. My dad wasn't really crazy about it, because he said it had probably been owned by some teenager who drag raced it all the time, but hey, that was my dad. He did agree after a little whining, and I drove it out of the lot straight to my best friend's house! I was so excited, my first car, and it looked like something I had only dreamed of owning. He had wanted me to get a Metropolitan, because he said they were safer. Ugh. I had such good times in this car, going down the road with the radio blasting out the Beatles, at 100 mph. I drove it to my first job, I still remember heading home on the Interstate late at night, in the dead of a Florida winter (50 degrees), with the top down and the heat on full blast. A few months later I met Larry, he kept my car one day while I was at work and had the nerve to take off the white twin racing stripes I had put on the hood and the trunk. I was crushed! And my dad made it worse by thanking him for doing it!! So my car made it through our first born in 1966 and then I had to part with her when she began having oil problems. But I will always miss my little Dodge Dart.

It was one of those sports moments that wasn't about sports: On April 25, 1976 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Rick Monday of the Chicago Cubs heroically snatched an American flag that was about to be set alight by two radical protesters. Monday recalls the event in an interview 30 years later.

The single most dramatic moment in American sports history: Bobby Thomson's home run that won the 1951 National League pennant for the New York Giants. The Giants had trailed the Brooklyn Dodgers by 13.5 games in August, but they won 38 of their last 44 games to finish tied with the Dodgers at the end of the season. A three-game playoff was needed to settle matters. The Giants and Dodgers split the first two games. The Dodgers were leading the deciding game 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Giants scored a run and had two men on base with one out. Bobby Thomson came to bat...

American League baseball umpire Ed Hurley appeared as a challenger on What's My Line in this episode from October 4, 1953. In the early days of What's My Line, the panelists were each permitted a 'free guess' as to what the contestant's occupation was. Even though Hurley signed in with the alias 'John Doe,' Dorothy Kilgallen correctly guessed Hurley's job. (Hurley relates a funny story about an incident that occurred that day in the fifth game of the World Series between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees.)
