This is the introduction of the What's My Line panelists for June 26, 1960. It was the night after a freak accident, originating from Arlene Francis' Manhattan home, in which an unfortunate passerby was killed. Arlene lived in an eighth-floor apartment at the Ritz Tower at the corner of Park Avenue and 57th Street. Eight-pound weightlifting dumbbells were used to prop open a screen window of the apartment where an air conditioning unit had been removed. On the night before this show aired, while Arlene was in Connecticut peforming in a play, a maid accidentally knocked a dumbbell out the window. It struck a luckless pedestrian on the street below and killed him! The victim, Alvin M. Rodecker, a financier from Detroit, was visiting New York City with his wife to celebrate his 60th birthday. (Rodecker's wife noted the last thing her husband said was what a wonderful time he was having.) In 1962 Francis paid Rodecker's estate $175,000 in an out-of-court settlement. The Ritz Tower paid $10,000. John Daly congratulates Arlene on appearing so soon on WML after the awful incident.

Paul Newman was more than a great actor, he was a fantastic humanitarian as we from Connecticut got to know since he was our neighbor. I've been working for News12 for a couple of months, and I provided the camera work for the reporter at the end.

How often do you find someone doing something you'd never expect of them. I did just that with Paul Timpanelli who is the President and CEO of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. He is an original member of the Doo Wop group YesterYear. I also interviewed former Vice President Candidate and Senator of Connecticut today Joe Liberman....I know you all would enjoy Paul's group first! I have more of YesterYear's music to come throughout the week, I was to stay for 2 songs, I stayed for so much more!

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2004, Sports Illustrated conducted extensive scientific polls of sports fans in all 50 states. One question asked respondents to name the person they considered the biggest 'enemy of the state.' Only one person 'won' in more than one state: Omnipresent New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner! Not surprisingly, Steinbrenner swept the New England states, finishing first in Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Connecticut. However, the contempt sports fans held for Steinbrenner spread far and wide. He also 'won' in both Florida and Alaska!

I had the pleasure of interviewing the governor of my home state of Connecticut the other day in Westport, CT. We were there in memory of the victims who lost their lives on that fateful day.
