October 3,1952 to May 11,1956.
The trials and tribulations of Connie Brooks, the
wisecracking English teacher at Madison High School.
Stories revolved around her romantic misadventures as she
struggled to impress fellow teacher Philip Boynton (Robert Rockwell and played on the radio show by Jeff Chandler), the biology
instructor; and her continual clash with crusty,
blustery Osgood P. Conklin (Gale Gordon), the principal. Connie rented a room from kindly old Mrs. Davis and rode to school each morning with one of her students,
the dimwitted Walter Denton (Richard Crenna). This was a great show. My daughter, who collects old radio shows, has an entire set of these and they had me in stitches every night!

She has always been one of my favorite actresses and I think she's one of the most underrated and overlooked actresses of her generation. Kim Novak was a unique phenomenon. As the last of the "manufactured" screen goddesses and Columbia's answer to Marilyn Monroe, Kim had a more refined sex appeal than the other blond goddesses of the 1950's. She radiated a kind of mystery that harked back to the days of Garbo and Dietrich. Onscreen Kim Novak seems distant, enigmatic, thoughtful and somehow sad. She has been referred to as the reluctant goddess, the melancholy blonde and the lavender blonde. The studio created the idea that lavender was Kim Novak's favorite color as part of her movie star image. However, I think the term Lavender Blonde fits Kim Novak - it sets her apart from the sunny Doris Day or the gilded Marilyn Monroe. Lavender is closer to blue - makes you think of Madeleine in Vertigo, lost in thought by the seashore.

One of the great movie endings ever! To truly appreciate this scene you should watch City Lights (1931) in its entirety. Nevertheless, here's a brief summary: Charlie Chaplin's tramp character has been mistaken for a rich man by a blind flower girl. Charlie gets into all sorts of misadventures in order to raise enough money for an operation that will restore the girl's sight. He ends up going to prison. This scene is set months later when Charlie is released from jail. Charlie is more bedraggled than usual. (Note he doesn't have his bamboo cane!) Charlie passes by an upscale flower shop and sees the girl who now has her vision. She takes pity on Charlie and gives him a coin. She then recognizes him by the mere touch of his hand and realizes the sacrifices he must have made for her. Pass the tissues!

The Adventures of Robin Hood was a popular, long-running British television series that also aired in the US, starring Richard Greene as Robin Hood. Back in the early days of television, commercials were often built into the stories, as well as the opening and closing credits of the shows. This is an example of how it was done in the 1950's.

This integrated commercial was usually seen at the end of the show during the 1953-'54 season. That's the period when Kellogg's was pushing Sugar Smacks on The Adventures of Superman. By 1955, Clark was plugging Corn Flakes....

In a career that spans almost four decades his stories never cease to amaze, thrill and touch our hearts. 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which began filming in June of this year, is scheduled for release on May 22, 2008. Spielberg has also begun plans for an Abraham Lincoln biopic, titled 'Lincoln', which will star Liam Neeson as the 16th US President, and is also scheduled for release in 2008. He's also started working on a space travel movie entitled 'Interstellar'. It will be based on real scientific theories of black holes, worm holes, time travel, and gravity. Steven is also planning a motion capture film trilogy based on The Adventures of Tintin. 'Jurassic Park IV' is also in development, and another of his upcoming projects is a miniseries which he will produce with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, titled 'The Pacific'.

Willard "Bill" Kennedy was an American actor, voice artist, and the host of the long-running (Detroit based television show) Bill Kennedy at the Movies. CKLW-TV in Windsor, Ontario. In 1969 he moved to WKBD-TV in Southfield, Michigan and continued hosting the show until retiring to Florida (1956-1981)....The format of his program was to feature a vintage movie during which Bill would give pertinent information & and provided anecdotes about the actors, directors and about the production of the movies he showed, etc.
Also, Kennedy's voice is heard doing the opening narration of the television series Adventures of Superman!

I've looked all over for this scene and finally found it. Made in 1954, Nicky (Arnaz) and Tacy Collini (Ball) are going to be married. Nicky wants to save up money for a house, but Tacy dreams of starting off with their own home on wheels...a trailer. After the two are hitched, they hitch up their trailer and begin their honeymoon. The humor comes from several disastrous adventures they have while traveling, including Tacy's awkward attempt to cook dinner in a moving trailer, and a cliffhanging ride through the mountains that nearly destroys their marriage. Lucy was perfect as usual, and I die laughing every time I watch this.
