Rachael Rays Mom An early TV cooking demonstration featuring Martha Brooks. The TV station WRGB began experimental broadcasts in 1928. In the early 1940's, Brooks starred in the station's (and, some believe, the nation's) first commercially-sponsored television program, "Keeping Your Home Shipshape." For this role Brooks assumed another alias, Mrs. Ima Fixit. She starred on the program opposite a puppet created by Joe Owens.

Tinker Toys The Tinkertoy Construction Set was created in 1914—one year after the A. C. Gilbert Company's Erector Set—by Charles H. Pajeau and Robert Pettit in Evanston, Illinois. Pajeau, a stonemason, designed the toy after seeing children play with pencils and empty spools of thread. Captain Pugwash captain pugwash first screened on british TV in 1957. He was the master of the Black Pig, is a rotund and somewhat less than fearsome pirate, who nevertheless engages in the usual piratical activies involving lost treasures and so forth. His arch enemy is Cut-Throat Jake, captain of The Flying Dustbin. Despite his blustering optimism and self-importance, Pugwash is usually unobtrusively saved from catastrophe by Tom the Cabin Boy.
