Bob Hope was the mystery challenger on this episode of What's My Line from April 13, 1958. Most noteworthy is the fact that it is one of the rare WML episodes not hosted by John Daly. (There were only four such occasions in 17.5 years!) Clifton Fadiman does the honors instead.

If you know who Clifton Fadiman was, please report immediately to the nearest trivia contest! I had to look him up. Here's what I found: Mr Fadiman was, among other things, the book review editor for the New Yorker magazine and a big wheel with the Book of the Month Club.

I actually remember seeing him on tv in the 50's, his name was practically a household word.

Wasn't he the host of Information Please?

Eric is right! According to my indispensible reference book, Total Television, Clifton Fadiman hosted both the TV and radio versions of Information Please. The TV version was a CBS summer replacement program in 1952.
I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of this fellow.
