We had an aluminum tree complete with the colored wheel. It was a pain to put together.

From what I heard a person could electrocute themselves with one of these. Any truth to this?

My sister put up one of the aluminum trees in her family room this year. We remember seeing them when we were kids.

Electrocute is such a strong word. But the reason aluminum trees were sold with a color wheel providing the tree with its 'illuminated glow' was the chance one or more of the aluminum needles could come into contact with the threaded-portion of the many light bulbs used on traditional trees, and depending on the polarity of the string of lights plugged into the wall socket, turn the tree into one giant electrical conductor. The results could be - to remain safe, cause a short circuit, or a surprise shock to anyone (or pet) that happened by and dared touch the aluminum beauty. And water would only add to the fun. Talk about your startled Santa Claus-!
