Too Bad Doug and the Slugs This song was used as the theme for the Norm MacDonald comedy The Norm Show, a 1999-2001 sitcom. For us up here in Canada, it was a big hit in 1980. Singer Doug Bennett passed away in 2004. Catchy tune. Hope you like it!

I always liked the song because of its nice West Indian style beat.

I remember back in about 1980 or 1981, Vancouver TV station CKVU had a live evening show called (IIRC) 'The Vancouver Show'. Pia Shandel, Mike Winlaw and Laurier Lapierre were the hosts at that time. Doug and the Slugs would appear about once a month (or so it seemed) and always bring about 20 screaming fans who would provide some rent-a-crowd hysteria for their performance. It was like they were supposed to be the next Applejack (Trooper) and we were supposed to believe it. I had a hard time wrapping my head around the charisma of Doug Bennett...he had something, but in terms of local Vancouver performers of the time, they were seemingly miles behind Billy Cowsill's Blue Northern. Again, working off faulty memory, they fell flat in the rest of Canada (read: Toronto), but for some reason Too Bad went to #1 in Boston, and that was the launching pad for their success.
