From Match Game '74, Charles Nelson Reilly zings Brett Somers with a quick comeback. The twosome had never met before Match Game started, but they quickly became great friends. They died within months of each other in 2007.

Ah! The art of the comeback line without an expletive. The best I've heard was to a heckler who had barracked Billy Connelly. His retort to this guy was,'You should get an agent pal. Why sit in the dark and handle yourself'?

Agreed, Donmac. Some people confuse vulgarity with wit. There's nothing quite as entertaining as a comedian who can use the English language well without resorting to crudeness.
Groucho Marx was probably the best I've ever heard. Too bad George Carlin's routines were replete with vulgarities, or he'd be at the top of my list.
