Today is actually fitting for a memorial to her, as she died on August 17, 1979. It was in 1973 that Vivian learned shocking news. She discovered that she had breast cancer. After a difficult operation she slowly recovered. She continued her work in the theater and her last appearance was made in Lucy Calls the President. In 1977 Vivian once more found out devastating facts. She also had bone cancer. On August 17, 1979 Vivian Vance lost her battle with cancer. She was 70 years of age.
