I'm not hearing much about today being D-Day. 69 years ago today.
5,000 ships and landing craft.
50,000 vehicles
11,000 planes

Unfortunately the more distant an event is, the fewer the number of people will mark its anniversary.

Military history--even something as important as D-Day--is a foreign concept to a lot of young people today.

A sad 2013 statistic says 600 WWII veterans die each day.

I'm assuming you mean American WWII veterans, Steve.

According to some research I did, in 2010 there were about 2 million American WWII veterans still remaining from the 16 million who served during the war. In 2010 the National World War II Museum estimated that 900 American WWII veterans die daily.

On average, about 6,000 Americans die every day.
