My mom smoked these in the 60's. If anything was worse than her unfiltered Pall Malls, it was Salems. In high school I used to sneak a couple out of her pack every day and take them to school to smoke with the other morons behind the gym before class. Who knew that years later there would be evidence that menthol cigarettes were worse than non-menthol? What makes this ad funny is that the ad-men wanted us to acquiant their cigarettes with the beautiful fresh outdoors!

But you gotta admit - these darn commercials sure as heck were romantic and convinced many young, gullible types that smoking those cancer weeds added to your sexiness and desirability.
BTW, in my Brooklyn neighborhood we called the other brand Pell Mells, though I was more of a cigar guy.
