The Army's Manhattan Engineer District, which designed, developed and tested the first atomic bomb, embarked on a nuclear testing program in 1946 at the newly established Pacific Proving Ground in the Marshall Islands area. It's not a pleasant video, but it's part of our history.

This is an important positive event in world history. Ask WWII veterans what they thought of the atomic bomb. They know it ended the war and prevented a bloody invasion of Japan which likely would have killed one million Allied troops. (Thus, the A-bombs saved far more lives than they took.) The mere threat of atomic weapons has prevented another global war. Before the atomic era, Europe used to have a major conflict about every 30 years. The nukes have given the world 60 years of relative peace.
