Red Barn Commercial 1971 Red Barn was a hugely popular hamburger restaurant in my hometown in the early 1970s. (I used to get a free burger coupon in the mail around my birthday!) Red Barn was a chain of burger joints that had locations in 19 states and Canada. The facades of their restaurants were designed to look like barns. This is a 1971 commercial advertising the Barnbuster burger. The main character, Hamburger Hungry, looked too much like Ernie from Sesame Street and had to be redesigned not long after this commercial aired to avoid copyright troubles.

Red Barn was the most popular burger chain in Canada in 1970. By 1975, there were none left. McDonald's had blown them out of the water. Red Barn arrogantly thought they were so well known they didn't need to advertise. The former Red Barn in my hometown is now a bedroom furniture store.

Yes, Tommy, Red Barn had restaurants in Pennsylvania. I'd bet that souvenir shop you mentioned was once a Red Barn.
